Steve Goodwin's Sunday update

Well after hitting the cross bar and post in recent weeks normal service was resumed this week with another Diamond Racing winner in the shape of "Orpenindeed". We claimed Orpenindeed from a race at Wolverhampton specifically to win this race at Epsom. We had three runners in the race and I must say I thought Blue Noodles ran a career best back in third and it will not be long before Noodles is back in the winners enclosure.

Elsewhere in the week "One of the boys" ran his third consecutive second place whilst recording a career best performance. Disappointments of the week were Foreign Investment and Lord Fidelio. Foreign Investment now heads for retirement. Lord Fidelio's performance was too bad to be true and he will now come back to the pre training yard for assessment. All things being well it is likely we shall be taking on a new trainer in Sussex. More details to follow!

This forthcoming Thursday sees the appeal heard of Grand Art against his demotion at Perth. Wednesday sees The Hague and El Maachi at Sandown and Friday sees Quiquillo at Newmarket. A couple of the National Hunt horses have entries as well.

News of the week was the Harry Findlay appeal victory against the BHA. I think without doubt this leaves the BHA with severe egg on their faces and after having the experience of dealing with them personally I feel the time is long overdue for a massive shake up and overhaul from the top down!.

I am away next weekend so my next update will be 1st August. Take care and have a great couple of weeks.

All the best Steve

Orpenindeed Wins On Debut!!

Diamond Racing who claimed Orpenindeed just 17 days ago didn't have to wait long before their newest team member saw the winners enclosure at Epsom on Thursday evening.

Given a strong ridden by Andrew Heffernan, Orpenindeed won by a short head with Diamond Racings other runner Blue Noodles back in third.

Diamond Racing also won the same race the year before with their 9 time winning mare Ogre.

Steve Goodwin's Sunday update

Once again this week I am reporting multiple placed horses but no winners. Lets hope next weeks report reveals a winner for the week.

Before I start I can confirm that we have lodged an official appeal over Grand Art's disqualification at Perth last week for the reasons I stated in last weeks blog.

The Hague finished 2nd at Epsom which to be blatantly honest was not Andy Heffernan's finest hour. Andy has done tremendously well for us. He has ridden many winners and 9 times out of 10 follows riding instructions to the letter. Prior to each race I analyse the likely pattern of a race. This is to identify whether there is an advantage of riding a horse a certain way (getting unconested lead, come from off the pace because I believe leaders will go too fast, etc. Here I was certain that "Laish Ya Hadar" would set a furious pace. I instructed Andy to sit in second and then at just over 2 out to accelerate into the lead. "Laish Ya Hadar" bolted to the start and was withdrawn. This meant that there was no pace on and Andy sat in 3rd/4th and the race turned into a sprint. I was hoping Andy would have made the running. This type of race does not suit "The Hague" and he lugged into the rails and Andy became unbalanced. We finished 2nd but I am of the belief if the race was run again and we raced from the fron we would have won.

Ogre ran on the same day and ran the most disappointing race she has for us. Dave Evans has done a great job with her for two years but our belief is a change of scenery and training regime is required so she is now at Tim Vaughan's. I have no doubt she will bounce back and we will see the Ogre of 2009 later this year.

Friday saw two runners at Chepstow. "Zarazar" ran a creditable 3rd in the novice race and Quiquillo ran 3rd under a fantastic Andy Heffernan ride. Quiquillo now steps up in trip later this month.

This week sees Oneoftheboys at Southwell on Sunday,Foreign Investment at Brighton on Tuesday and we have Orpenindeed, Blue Noodles and Liberty Trail entered at Epsom on Thursday. On Saturday night at Lingfield Lord Fidelio, Orpenindeed and Blue Noodles hold entries.

This forthcoming week sees the appeal of Harry Findlay. Will the BHA apply common sense or just apply the rule book. If they apply common sense it sets a precedent which may cause them a problem. It will be interesting! Harry has moved all his horses away from Paul Nicholls as he was disappointed that Paul did not provide him with support. The owner is king and remember it is the trainers who are employed by the owners and the horses are the property of the owners(many trainers do not get this basic concept!).

Have a great week. Will next post Sunday 17th July.

Steve Goodwin's Sunday update

Well it has been a very eventful week. When i wrote the blog last Sunday I stated that i hope d to report a winner this week. Well I am,I am not and I maybe! More about that in a minute.

Of the seven runners this week we had one winner (demoted to second) two seconds (Oneoftheboys and Blue Noodles), two thirds (Norwest and Liberty Trail) and one unplaced (Gulf President).

Overall this meant that for 2010 under both codes we have had 13 winners from 57 runners which represents a 22.81% strike rate which is impressive by anyones standards.

Lets start with our "Winner" Grand Art. We recommended a strong bet on Grand Art and fortunately with virtually all bookmakers paying first past the post nowadays this meant we all collected. However we still feel a little upset with the situation. For a horse to be disqualified and placed second the stewards must be 100% confident that but for the interference the result would have been different. We do not believe this to be the case. Had both horses kept straight then there is no doubt Grand Art would have won the race. Of course Grand Art veering left did cause what was termed "accidental interference" but the issue is that Grand Art was idling on the run in and was still not passed. Ourselves and Tim Vaughan are conidering an appeal to reverse the reversed decision. More about that next week!

Oneofthe boys ran a gallant second after leading at the last but will now go up 7lbs which will make life harder for him from now on. Blue Noodles ran back to form (as I predicted a month ago on the owners line) when he stepped up to a mile and went back to a track such as Epsom. He was outstayed by "Lang Shining" who is really a 1m 2f horse. Noodles goes back to Epsom on 15th July.

Norwest ran a creditable third despite having conditions against him and Liberty Trail ran better than his finishing position of third suggested after getting baulked when about to run on. He also goes to Epsom on 15th.

Gulf President was our only runner from the seven unplaced and there were reasons for this disappointment.

During the week we also added to our string with the purchase of "Orpenindeed" from Marco Botti's yard after his 6 length win at Wolverhampton. Orpen has joined our claiming sydicate and runs at Epsom on 15th July also!

Congratulations to Henry Cecil for winning his first Coral Eclipse for quite a while with "Twice Over". Henry now trains "Astrantia" for us and to quote Henry "Astrantia is bred to be a classic winner". Here's hoping!

The forthcoming week could also be busy. Grand Art may reappear at Worcester on Wednesday evening. Ogre and The Hague go to Epsom on Thursday whilst Quiquillo and Zarazar travel the short distance from David Evans' yard to Chepstow on Friday.

I am definately going to Epsom on Thursday night and look forward to seeing many of you there.

In the meantime have a great week and enjoy the sunshine.

All the best

Steve

Grand Art, Yes But No..........But Yes.... Maybe??

Grand Art who was backed from 5/2 into 15/8 looked like he landed the prize when winning the 4.50 at Perth, only to be placed second after a stewards' inquiry.

Chris Morgan, Racing Manager commented "It is always disappointing when you get beat but to pass the post first and then have it taken away from you is even more disappointing".

"From a betting point of view every bookmaker seems to have paid first passed the post so the owners can take something from the race".

Chris continued "However the bare result still reads second and I am disappointed for the horse (Grand Art) who gave his all. Tim (Tim Vaughan, trainer) has already taken legal advice and I think it is very likely an appeal shall be lodged on Monday".

27th June 2010

Steve's sunday update

Well it has been very good news this week from our main betting line point of view and also from the performance of Diamond horses.

The main line returned one bet and one winner at 14/1 and Gulf President provided our 13th winner of 2010 with success at Brighton.

One of the skills we have at Diamond Racing is the placing of our horses. It was a skill that I developed based on a certain set of principals and these set of principals were passed onto Chris Morgan when he joined us 6 years ago. We continue to be one step ahead of most in the racing business as our regular strike rate in excess of 20% testifies.

We would like always to claim that we know when every horse will win but this was not the case this week with Gulf. It was a race full of very disappointing types and we felt he could finish anywhere between 1st-4th. The fact he ran out an 8 length winner shows we cannot be accurate all of the time!

A concern to us at the present time is the form of the David Evans yard. The indifferent form has now gone on for quite a period of time and after David having a clear run for the last couple of years or so there is definately a problem with the well being of the horses. This leaves us in a quandry as to whether to stop running all, most or some of our horses from Dave's yard for the time being. It is a discussion and decision that we will make with Dave over the next few days.

I am writing this review on Sunday lunchtime. I am going out for a few drinks to watch the World Cup and Chris is off to Uttoxeter to oversee "One of the Boys" and "Norwest".

I had planned this week to go to Epsom on Thursday where we have seven entries but we will have to see how things pan out this week to see if we have any runners.

Things are going well for us at the moment and I will be disappointed if I am not reporting that we have had another winner this week when i post my next review.

Take care and have a good week. Come on England!

Gulf Continues The Fine Diamond/Vaughan Run!

Gulf President continued the fine run of form for Diamond Racing and Tim Vaughan with an easy victory at Brighton on Tuesday afternoon.

Ridden by Andrew Heffernan Gulf President was being pushed along for the first few furlongs before taking it up 3f from home and running out an easy 8l winner.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "That was a bit of a surprise, it wasn't a great race and on previous flat form he couldn't win, it was the type of race that he could win or finish 4th".

Chris continued "It was a bad race and I am not sure we will find another one that bad on the flat but we purchased him to go hurdling. That will do his confidence the world of good and I am sure we will find a few races over hurdles during the summer that will see him in the winner's enclosure again".

That was Diamond Racings 13th winner so far in 2010.

Another Debut, Another Winner!!

Patrixbourne was making her hurdling debut at Sedgefield on 14th June for Diamond Racing and Tim Vaughan and the outcome was the same as, One Of The Boys, Letham Island and Mhilu.......WINNER!!

Backed from 7/2 in the morning, Patrixbourne returned at 15/8 landing a nice little touch for her owners.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "Patrixbourne was our target purchase at the DBS sales last October. She had the profile that both us and Tim Vaughan do so well with. In fact we were so confident that she would win races for us we advertised her with a money back guarantee".

Chris continued "She had one or two issues when we got her back from the sales. Paula and Sara who run our pre-training yard done an excellent job with her. When she returned to Tim she was a different mare".

"Her owners have been very patient with her and they have been rewarded today. Richard Johnson (jockey) was outstanding. Patrixbourne is a mare that has stamina in abundence and the further she goes the better she will be."

That was Diamond Racing's 12th winner so far in 2010.

Steve's sunday update

Due to public demand we are reinstating my Sunday update where I bring my view on the topics on the issues in racing and also look back on the week gone and week ahead in relation to Diamond Racing.

Well we start with the good news that "Mhilu" recorded our 11th winner of 2010, and our 152nd in total, with a success in a Uttoxeter seller on Thursday evening. In fact this was our second consecutive winner on Thursday evenings at Uttoxeter after "Letham Island's" win the preceeding week. We had claimed "Mhilu" out of a Towcester claimer for £5,000 only 10 days earlier. This was the first winner of the "claiming syndicate" which is a syndicate specifically aimed at buying and selling horses and winning these types of races. It is a concept we origianlly ran in 2008 and obtained 12 winners for owners in five months. We did not run this in 2009 and this is the first success since we started it again on 1st June (13 days ago) and it runs until 31st December. Please contact the office if you want further details.

Tony McCoy who rode "Mhilu" advised us to let the horse go afterwards as he felt scope was limited and this we did for £6,000 at the subsequent auction. We do wish the new owners the very best.

The forthcoming week sees the debut of "Patrixbourne" for us at Sedgefield on Monday with "Oneoftheboys" a possibility for us on Wednesday. You will note that we do not have any flat runners for the next couple of weeks and this is because of a viris issue with many of the horse at the David Evans yard.

The big news dominating racing has been the six month ban of Harry Findlay. There are two ways that you can look at this. Firstly Harry has broken the rules but are the rules an ass. Having had experience with the BHA I do feel that some the rules are ludicrous but someone in Harry's positions should be fully aware and adhere to them. Because someone is high profile does not mean that they should be treated any different from anyone else. However he was a net backer and my view on balance is that you should not be allowed to trade on your own horse as you can manipulate the market and the rule is fair. Perhaps a large fine rather than a ban would have been more suitable. Harry is going to appeal so the story will....................

My next Boxing promotion event takes places on Saturday 19th June at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London. For full details and for tickets please go to www.goodwinpromotions.co.uk. It looks like I will be on Radio London 94.9 this Thursday evening on the Steve Bunce Sports show so listen in.

Take care and have a good week. Next update 20th June.

The Hague Lays Down The Law!!!

After over 300 days off the track The Hague showed his rivals utter contempt when winning The Coral Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium Handicap Stakes on Tuesday Evening.

The lightly raced 4 year old was making his debut for trainer David Evans and owners Diamond Racing and landed a massive gamble in the process under a strong ride from the outstanding Andrew Heffernan.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “We were confident today, he’s been going very well at home and if he reproduced his home work we felt he would win and he did”.

Chris continued “He will come on for that run and we expect him to continue to improve throughout the season, we will also look to step him up in trip at some stage”.

That was Diamond Racing’s 8th winner so far in 2010!!!

The main line has so far in 2010 achieved a 24.79% return on stakes invested.

Managing Director and pro backer Steve Goodwin said: "In the last 17 years our main line service has made a profit for all of our owners. We have no doubt that 2010 will be no different. Of course you have to adopt a professional approach as our line is about backing horses that are overpriced and where we have knowledge that we consider to be ahead of the market".

Steve continued "A lot of work goes into this service but it ensures that our owners costs are paid for and they can enjoy their racing for free."

Ben Chorley will now head to Nottingham on 27th April for a 1m 2f class 3 handicap providing the ground is soft.

Ben Bounces Right Back To Form!!!

After 259 days off the track Ben Chorley put yet another injury behind him with an excellent 4th in the £50,000.00 “Spring Mile” handicap stakes on his debut run for trainer David Evans at Doncaster on Saturday.

Always up with the pace Ben was a little tapped for toe in the closing stages but finished a fine 4th of 19 runners in this valuable and competitive handicap.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “It was an outstanding run and we were delighted, Dave Evans and his team have done a great job getting him back on the track. Ben has had so many problems since his 3 year old career and after another lay off we really didn’t know what to expect but he just keeps coming back, he really is as tough as old boots”.

Chris continued “Cathy (Cathy Gannon jockey) said he blew up approaching the furlong pole but found another wind inside the furlong and ran on again, Cathy wasn’t hard on him and we will now look to step him up in trip”.

Ben Chorley Ready For Spring Mile.

Ben Chorley was this morning a confirmed runner in the "The Spring Mile" at Doncaster on Saturday.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan commented “Providing nothing goes wrong between now and Saturday Ben will run. He will have a light canter tomorrow morning and then go up to Doncaster late Friday afternoon”.

Chris continued “We were hoping for more rain and thankfully it’s come. I am told there is more rain forecast which can only help our cause. Ben had a setback after the “John Smiths Cup” last season but we have been delighted with his preparation and we have had no issues”.

22nd March 2010

Racecourse Gallop Readies Ben For Doncaster!!!

Ben Chorley completed his final serious piece of work in preparation for the William Hill Lincoln/Spring Mile at Wolverhampton last Saturday evening.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “Ben worked over 7f and we were delighted with him. They went a really good clip and Ben went right away in the straight that should put him spot on for Saturday”.

Chris continued “It is unlikely Ben will get into the Lincoln so we will take our chance in “The Spring Mile”, Cathy Gannon who rides Ben in the race will give him a canter on Thursday morning and we just hope that the ground remains good-soft or gets softer”.

Injury forces Boundless to miss swansong race!

BOUNDLESS PROSPECT has run his last race after being withdrawn from today's Diamond Racing's Boundless Prospect Happy Retirement Claiming Stakes at Southwell, connections revealed on Monday.

The 11-year-old was entered at the six-day stage for the race named in his honour - which was going to be his swansong - but a mishap at home has ruled him out of the contest.

Chris Morgan, racing manager to Diamond Racing, said: "Boundless Prospect took a knock to a hind leg and has an abscess on it.

"He was improving but [trainer] David Evans said he wouldn't be at his best, and so he will be retired."

He added: "He has been a fabulous horse. We bought him in 2008 and he has won seven races for us and was placed eight times for us. He owes us nothing and he will have a life of leisure now.

"Even if our horses don't prove themselves on the racecourse we find homes for them. He will go to a pre-training yard in Bedfordshire, where he will be looked after by Paula Walker and Sara Hush."

Boundless Prospect won 18 of his 101 starts and earned £98,144 in prize-money.

Boundless Prospect Retired!!!

Diamond Racing today confirmed the retirement of Boundless Prospect.

The 11 year old ran a total of 101 races, winning 18 times and was also placed on another 22 occasions. While in the ownership of Diamond Racing, Boundless Prospect won 7 races and was also placed 8 times, he won over £98,000.00 in prize money.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan commented "Boundless was due to have his final race on the 9th March at Southwell, we named the race after him. However he took a knock to his hind leg last Friday and although he's improving he won't be ready for the 9th, therefore we decided to retire him now".

"I have to give a mention to David Evans and his team who have done an outstanding job with Boundless. Before we sent Boundless to David the horse looked like he was set for retirement but they turned the horse around and it is fair to say that over the past 18 months the horse has been more consistent than at any stage of his career".

Chris continued "Boundless will now have a happy retirement down at our pre-training yard in Bedfordshire. He's been a grand horse and has provided Diamond Racing and the racing public with a lot of enjoyment over the years and to still be winning races at the age of 11 is a credit to the horse".

26th February 2010

Boundless Prospect Set For Retirement!!!

Boundless Prospect will run the final race of his career at Southwell on Tuesday 9th March and will also have the race named after him.

The 11 year old and 18 times race winner continues to be in great form but Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "Boundless has been a grand servant not just to Diamond Racing but to racing in general and although he still loves his racing we have to call time at some stage and we would prefer to do it when he is fit and well. David Evans and his team have done an outstanding job with the horse and it is a credit to them that he is still winning at the age of 11".

Chris continued "We have named the race after him and that will be his swan song. Win, lose or draw he will be retired after the race and he can have a well earned retirement".

Diamond Racing have ensured his happy retirement with a home at their pre-training yard in Wing, Bedfordshire. Diamond Racing have started 2010 in fine form with 7 winners already and a 50% win to runner strike rate.

Bouncing Boundless Wins 18th Race Of His Career!!!

Remarkable Boundless Prospect continues to defy his age with yet another victory at Southwell on Sunday.

The 11yr old was having his 101st career start and record his 18th victory.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said “Boundless is just remarkable, we were considering retiring a few starts ago but he is so well at home and just loves his work. He was bouncing around the parade ring like a 2yr old before the race and in fairness he won well”.

Chris continued “He is likely to run back at Southwell in a few weeks, providing he comes out of the race well. He’ll then have his final start at Southwell in mid March before we retire him”.

Diamond Racing have now had 6 winners from just 10 runners so far in 2010, plus 2 places.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "Zarazar is very nice colt indeed and he is really starting to show the signs of a decent horse, Dave Evans (trainer) could not be happier with him".

Chris continued "If all goes to plan we would expect Zarazar out around April/May time however his perigee suggests he will continue to improve throughout the year".

Shares in Zarazar will be available shortly, however if you do require more information please contact the office on: 01525 853667 or email: christian@diamondracing.co.uk

100 Up For Boundless Prospect.

Boundless Prospect ran the 100th race of his career at his beloved Southwell on Thursday and once again produced a game performance when finishing second with the Racing Post calling him “The admirable 11yr old”.

Boundless has won 17 races and has also been placed 22 times, he has also amassed over £96,000.00 in prize money.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said “It is a great achievement to run in 100 races but what’s even more impressive is that he is still troubling the judge. David Evans and his team do a wonderful job because he does have problems with his back but Dave ensures he has regular treatment for it”.

Chris continued “We all think the world of Boundless he’s a real character. This will be his last all weather season before we retire him at the end March and we have a home ready and waiting for him. A horse that has been such a great servant not just to us but to racing in general deserves to be looked after once his racing days are over”.

Hat Trick Was All Clear Sailing!!!

Clear Sailing was claimed for just £6000,00 on 2nd January 2010 and by the 27th January 2010 he had completed a hat trick of wins for Diamond Racing and David Evans.

Clear Sailing had won his first 2 starts for us over 1m 2f but we decided the horse wanted even further and we stepped him up to 1m 4f, a trip he had never run over before.

Not only did he win but he won without coming off the bridle with his jockey Paul Doe easing down well before the line to complete his hat trick for us.

Clear Sailing was later claimed by Mr P Leech for £9000,00 and we would like to wish his new connections the best of luck with him.

That was Diamond Racing's 5th winner from just 8 runners so far in 2010!!!

16th January 2010

2 From 2, It's Plain Sailing For Clear Sailing!!

It was plain sailing for Clear Sailing at Lingfield on Saturday when he followed up last Saturday's course and distance victory with a clear cut success under jockey Paul Doe.

Since being claimed on the 5th January, Clear Sailing has run twice for Diamond Racing and trainer David Evans with the outcome of both races the same...........WINNER!!!

Diamond Racing's record already in 2010, 6 runners, 4 WINNERS & a third!!!

15th January 2010

Boundless Makes It 17!!

At the age of 11 and on his 99th career start Boundless Prospect did something that he has done often since being claimed by Diamond Racing.....WON!!

Since being claimed by Diamond, Boundless Prospect has run 14 times winning 6 of those starts and also been placed 7 times, today he won the 17th race of his career.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager commented "He is a remarkable racehorse and to still be winning races at the age of 11 is a credit to Dave Evans and all his staff. Boundless has an excellent record since we purchased him which shows we know which and what type of races he needs to be run in".

Chris continued "I have to admit after his last run I thought maybe we should called it a day with him but in fairness Steve (Steve Goodwin) and Dave (Dave Evans) thought he still had more to offer and they were right".

Diamond Racing have started 2010 in fine form with three winners and a third from just five runners, which once again highlights that without a doubt Diamond Racing are one of the leading syndicates in the UK!!

13th January 2010

Ben Eying Up The Lincoln.

Ben Chorley entered full training on Monday after recovering from a hairline facture of the hock with The Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster in March being his first target.

Chris Morgan, Racing Manager said “Ben is now back in full training with David Evans and will be prepared for The Lincoln in March. Ben is a very talented horse but has had more than his share of injury problems over the years. There are not many 6 year olds in the UK that have run only 8 times and won 4 starts”.

Chris continued “We also felt Ben would benefit from a change of scenery hence the move to David Evans. David Lanigan done a wonderful job with Ben 2 seasons ago when he won 3 from 3 but last season everything that could go wrong did. We never got the soft ground for Ben at any stage last year and after he ran on fast ground in The John’s Smith Cup his season ended. This season he will only run on suitable soft ground and there is the option of taking him abroad to France at some point where the ground is normally perfect for him”.

9th January 2010

It's Just All.....................Clear Sailing!!!

Clear Sailing followed in the footsteps of most horses that are claimed by Diamond Racing and......WON!!!

On his first start for Diamond Racing and David Evans Clear Sailing won over 1m 2f at Lingfield on 9th January 2010 in the hands of jockey Paul Doe, more improvement and victories are expected in the coming months.

Diamond Racing also ran Sir George in the same race who finished 3rd. Sir George was later claimed by Ollie Pears and Diamond Racing would like to wish his new connections the best of luck with him.

That was Diamond Racing's second winner of 2010 and our 143rd in total.

7th January 2010

2010 Starts In The Way 2009 Went...More Winners!!!

Diamond Racing started 2010 in the best possible way..........with a winner!!!

Bestowed who has been in fine form since being claimed by Diamond Racing won for the second time in his last three starts, as he continues his upward curve.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "Bestowed was our first runner of 2010 and to start with a winner is great. We had 17 winners in 2009 with a strike rate of over 23% and we are confident 2010 will be even better".

Chris continued "Most of our string will be going back into full training over the next few weeks, we have some very nice horses for the forth coming flat season".

Bestowed was Diamond Racing's 142nd winner!!

31st December 2009

2009 One Of The Best Years, Just Wait Until 2010!!

With 2009 coming to a close we look back on the year with great pride and achievement.

Diamond Racing achieved 17 winners and 26 placed horses and boasts a win to runner strike rate of over 23%, this is without doubt one of the best strike rates of any owner let alone syndicate in the UK.

In fact this was our third best year and when you consider that some of our most promising horses like the likes of Hisaronu, Ben Chorley and the well bred Course De Diamante suffered injuries that kept them out for the year it makes the 2009 list of winners even more impressive.

Ogre (3 wins), Diamond Laura (3 wins), Boundless Prospect (3 wins), Foreign Investment (2 wins), Blue Noodles (2 wins) all won multiple races for us plus Sir George also won after coming back from a career threatening injury, Quiquillo, Bestowed and One Of The Boys also saw the winners enclosure.

We now look towards 2010 with great excitement and hope as we shall go to war with a full and fit team of horses, Ben Chorley is once again raring to go and we all believe there is a “big race” in him. Of the other flat horses Blue Noodles, Quiquillo, Ogre, Foreign Investment have all done very well over the winter and we would be disappointed if these don’t add to their tally of wins in 2010.

We also do very well with our 2 year olds and once again we believe we have a 2 year old that will win multiple races just like, Diamond Laura, and Diamond Hurricane did……………keep in contact with the website for further information on our 2yr old for the 2010 season.

The Hague is another horse who we have high expectations for in 2010. He’s had one or two little problems since we purchased him but those issues have now been remedied……This is one horse not to be missed!!!

2009 also saw us welcome Tim Vaughan to our list of trainers and it wasn’t along before Tim gave us our first winner in the shape of One Of The Boys. We have some very nice horses with Tim, in particular Scorched Son who we believe will take us to the Cheltenham festival at some stage.

Our team of jumpers include, Gulf President, Patrixbourne’s, Letham Island and One Of The Boys and all are expected to see the winners enclosure in 2010.

Once again David Evans showed why he is one of the most talented trainers in the country, not only did he provide Diamond Racing with 16 of our 17 winners but he also sent out over 120 winners in 2009 a truly remarkable achievement.

With 2010 fast approaching the Diamond Racing team (Steve & Chris) would like to thank everyone for all their support over the past year not just from a racing point but from a personal point of view; your continued support is very much appreciated.

Here’s to a prosperous 2010.

John Francome Praises Diamond Racing!!!

Former champion jockey and top racing pundit John Francome today highlighted the Diamond Racing success story live on Saturdays Channel 4 Racing.

John Francome was covering an article that was in the racing post and commented: “What a great effort from the Diamond Racing syndicate to achieve 140 winners”.

Once again this highlights the fact that without a doubt Diamond Racing is one of the leading syndicates in the UK and with a win to runner rate of over 23%.....who can argue!!!

19th December 2009

Behold Bestowed, Another Diamond & Evans Improver!

Diamond Racing are renowned for uncovering little gems that we can improve and win races with and once again Diamond Racing proved we are the best in the business at doing it.

Bestowed had run 12 times before we claimed him without success however at Wolverhampton on 18th December Bestowed produced a career best performance when taking the 9f handicap stakes under a fine ride from Andrew Heffernan.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "All the credit must go to Dave Evans and his team. Dave seems to be able to improve everything and anything that is sent to him, it is remarkable".

Chris continued "We should give a mention to Andrew Heffernan (jockey) who was outstanding on Bestowed. Also Dave's son Richard and his wife, Emma work really hard with our horses, in fact his whole team do a fantastic job".

Diamond Racing issue warning over mailshot.

The following was published on page 6 of the Racing Post on 18th December 2009. Diamond Racing would like to thank the Racing Post for their help regarding this matter.

DIAMOND RACING is urging punters to ignore a mailshot for a tipping service being circulated under the company's name.

Potential clients are being encouraged to pay £299 for a two-year subscription in what appears to be the latest scam orchestrated by bogus tipsters.

The mailshot, headlined 'Diamond Racing Ahead Of The Field', carries no telephone number and the only contact information is what is believed to be an accommodation address in Shorham-by-Sea, West Sussex. The standing order bank mandate is for a NatWest branch in nearby Brighton which is where many of the frauds of this type emanate from.

Diamond Racing, which is registered as a limited company, has been syndicating horses since 1994, and currently has a string of 20 in training with Henry Cecil, Tim Vaughan and David Evans.

Racing manager Chris Morgan said on Wednesday: "The mailshot came to our attention when we started receiving emails from their clients asking why the tips were so bad, but this operation has nothing to do with us and they are simply trading on our name.

"I have contacted trading standards and they are going to investigate, but in the meantime it is important to us that punters know this mailshot is not associated with us in any way, and my advice to anybody receiving it would be to throw it away."

Boundless Is A 140ct Diamond!!!

At the age of 10 Boundless Prospect produced his 16th career victory under jockey Andrew Heffernan (5 for Diamond Racing) since being claimed out of Gay Kellaway’s yard back in April 2008.

Victory for Boundless Prospect in the Southwell Tote Sport Handicap also gave Diamond Racing their 140th winner.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "It is fitting that such a grand horse provided us with our 140th winner. It is a great achievement for Diamond Racing and also for Boundless Prospect, to win 16 races is an achievement in itself. I would like to thank all our owners and trainers for all their support over the years because without them Diamond Racing wouldn’t work".

Chris continued "We do ensure we have the right number of horses in training and are very sensible when selecting the type of horse and type of races we run them in. We properly have one of the highest strike rates of owners in the UK with a win to runner rate of over 22%".

8th December 2009

Boundless Runs Another Fine Race!!!

Boundless Prospect continues to hold his form well with a fine 2nd under Andrew Heffernan at his favourite track, Southwell on Tuesday.

Boundless stepped back into handicap company and was unlucky to run into an improver who was completing a 4 timer.

Depending how he comes out of the race, 10 year old Boundless may come back to Southwell on the 15th or 17th of December.

4th December 2009

Pleased In More Ways Than One For Sir George!!!

Sir George who was once thought of as a leading light at Peter Chapple Hyam's got his head back in front for the first time since April 2008 at Wolverhampton on Monday........however that is not the whole story.

Sir George has been plagued with injuries since his 2yr old career and after his victory back in April 2008 his career looked to be over.

Sir George was given 18 months off and entered into a course of treatment and rehabilitation down at Diamond Racing's pre-training yard.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager commented "Myself, Steve and the rest of the Diamond Racing team are delighted for Sir George and his owners. Huge credit must go to Paula and Sara who run our pre-training yard and of course Dave Evans and his team because without them Sir George would have never seen a racecourse again".

Chris continued "It may have only been a seller but that horse has been through so much and had so many problems it felt like he was winning the Derby. Hopefully he can now go on from this".

23rd November 2009

None For The Boys.....This Time!!

One Of The Boys who won on his debut for Diamond Racing & Tim Vaughan last time out was looking to follow up at Ffos Las on Monday.

One Of The Boys came to the last battling it out with Dusk and with the others well beaten it looked a 2 horse race. However both horses got in close to the last fence and One Of The Boys rider Tom David was unseated.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "It was disappointing for the race to finish like that but the most important thing was both horse and rider came home safe and sound, to be honest I think Dusk was going better than us but you never know".

Chris continued "We weren't going to run because he doesn't want ground that soft but when there were only 3 others declared it would have been foolish not to have run. It's credit to the horse that even on the testing ground he jumped the last neck and neck".

One Of The Boys will now be given a little break before heading to Hereford on 13th December.

20th November 2009.

Letham Island

Diamond Racing added another horse to their string with the purchase of the Tim Vaughan trained Letham Island.

A winner on the flat and over hurdles, Letham Island has shown a decent level of form in the past, but her previous trainer seemed to be out of form and she has now dropped to a very attractive handicap mark over both hurdles and fences.

Letham Island is the type of horse we and Tim Vaughan have enjoyed great success with (e.g, One Of The Boys, Ogre, Blue Noodles, One Night In Paris, etc) and after a short break to freshen her up we are sure we will get her back on the winning trail once again.

We are offering a special 45% discount in Letham Island for a limited time meaning the cost is just £55.95 per month.

Please contact Chris at the office on 01525-853667 or email us.

Letham Island is expected to make her debut for Diamond Racing and Tim Vaughan within the next 4-6 weeks.

18th November 2009

Exciting Scorched Son Almost Ready For Action!!!!

Scorched Son the exciting Irish import is around 3 weeks off making his debut for Diamond Racing and rising star trainer of the national hunt circuit, Tim Vaughan.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan commented “We are hopeful Scorched Son is a very nice prospect, we paid a lot of money for him because he appears to have a very progressive profile and Tim (Tim Vaughan trainer) has always spoken very highly of him. Scorched Son needs soft ground so we gave him a few months off when we first purchased him back in August in readiness for a winter campaign”.

Chris continued “The plan is to continue novice hurdling with him for the time being and hopefully around March/April time he shall be competing in one of the decent hurdle races. However we all feel his real potential is as a chaser and hopefully he will make into a festival horse in 2011. I know he’s been highlighted in a few of Tim’s stable talks/visit’s as a very nice horse”.

Diamond Racing has a 21% strike rated on the flat so far in 2009 and a 50% strike rate over jumps.

11th November 2009

Remarkable Man, Remarkable Achievement.

Congratulations to David Evans and his team who today trained their 100th flat winner of 2009!!!!

A great trainer who does not get the credit he deserves. Well done to Dave and all of his team!!

What Dave does with so improving horses is remarkable. Blue Noodles (2 wins), Ogre (6 wins), One Night In Paris (3 wins), Boundless Prospect (3 wins) etc.........the list goes on............A job well done!!!

13 of the 100 winners this year came for Diamond Racing......and we are not finished yet!!!

11th November 2009.

Boundless Bounces Back To Form.

Boundless Prospect put a dissapointing last run behind him when finishing 3rd at his favourite track Southwell on Wednesday.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "The old boy ran very well, you wouldn't see many better claimers than that at Southwell. We were surprised how decent the race was for a Southwell claimer, for a 10yr old he does hold his form very well".

Boundless Prospect now heads to Wolverhampton on the 5th December for the 1m 4f claimer that he won last year.

8th November 2009

Steve's Sunday update!

Well a very heavy night last night watching David Haye winning the World Heavyweight title. Hopefully bring some credibility back to the division and lift UK Boxing upwards.

Last week we had only the one runner which was our 14th winner of 2009 when "Oneoftheboys" ran out a ready winner at Fontwell. It was the first winner (2nd runner) from Tim Vaughan and we believe will be the first of many. You may recall we were so sure that this horse would win that we offered a money back guarantee if the horse did not. We have the same offer with another horse! Please call the office for details. This week we have two runners. Boundless Prospect runs at Southwell on Wednesday and Bestowed (subject to not being balloted out) runs at Wolverhampton on Friday.

It was great to see Henry Cecil have a winner at the Breeders Cup. He is still producing horses capable of winning at the highest level.

Adios and have a great week

Steve

6th November 2009

Won For The Boys!!!

One Of The Boys making his debut for Diamond Racing and trainer Tim Vaughan done what was expected.........WON!!

One Of The Boys was purchased out of Paul Webber's yard in May for just £1,200.00 (unfortunately we had to pay somewhat more!) by Tom Malone and Tim Vaughan and quickly repaid that fee with victory at Fontwell Park on Friday.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan commented "That was a very pleasing performance. It was 50/50 if we ran or not because the horse isn't 100% fit yet but Tim thought he should win anyway."

Chris continued "We knew it was only a question of time before One Of The Boys won. We were so confident that he would win races we offered a money back guarantee (advised in the racing post) to those who purchased a share in him. We guaranteed that if he didn't win we would refund all owners money and he's done it on his first start for us".

Chris added "He hasn't ran since April and he got very tired on the run in. He will come on a ton for that".

2nd November 2009

Steve's sunday update

A very quiet week for us on the racing front with no runners. This week Mosqueta runs at Wolverhampton on Monday and new recruit "Oneofthe boys" could make his chasing debut for us on Friday at either Hexham or Fontwell.

There have been no bets for us this week on the main line. It is a time of year when we need to learn, analyse every race including sectionally timing each horse and compiling the research information that will give us a massive edge over the National Hunt season. It is painstaking and time consuming but each year it is rewarded.

Onto racing matters and Darren Williams had his request for his licence to be reinstated refused by the BHA. I am a fence sitter on this situation. Firstly Darren was put through an Old Bailey trial where he was acquitted and he received a penalty from a discliplinary panel which he served. However the BHA argued that Darren did not fully comply with some of their requests and is not a "fit and proper person". What is does show is that the BHA will use whatever means they have to enforce what they want. The High Court case of Dean McKeown is awaiting a verdict from the judge. I cannot believe if the case goes in favour of McKeown that the BHA will leave it there. It would be no surprise to see new charges through their internal courts brought against him. Everyone is entitled to their own views on this.

I am looking forward to next weekends boxing. On Friday we see the rematch for the commonwealth Heavyweight title between Martin Rogan and Sam Sexton. For those of you who have Sky sports 1 this is a fight not be be missed and on Saturday David Haye challenges for the World Heavyweight title. For me on a betting front the best value lies in the Manny Pacquiao v Miguel Cotto fight on 15th Nov. Cotto at 2/1 against is far too big. I think he will be too big and too strong for Pac Man who is this price on two wins against faded Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. Well worth getting involved with!

We are at 13 winners for 2009 and hope to add at least 2-3 winners before the end of the year. 2 months to go and we will be trying.

Next message Sunday 8th.

Adios and have a great week

Steve

25th October 2009

Steve's Sunday update!

Firstly let me apologise for not being on yesterday. I was struck down with this flu thing and couldnt even get myself out of bed. Sea the Stars retiring has been a big debate in racing. My view is that flat racing is a business and jump racing is more of a sport. Whilst Diamond Racing have had major success on the flat to me National Hunt racing has been my first love and it is now that we are with the best NH trainer in the country, Tim Vaughan, that we can now step up a gear in that sphere, more about that later.

Well we had two runners in the week. Firstly Bestowed ran a really creditable race when coming fourth at Wolverhampton on Friday night. His winning turn is not far away. Then our veteran Boundless Prospect ran in a cavalry charge ladies race at Newbury on Saturday. We would never ever run in these types of races normally but we ran as a thank you to Emma Folkes to thank her for all the great work she has done for us this year. Boundless ran a poor race but the form of these races are worthless. He will be a different proposition at Southwell next time.

Spent a really exciting two days at the Doncaster sales with Chris and Pete. We met up with both Tim and Declan and our thanks go to both of them for their help at the sales.

We went to the sales with the original intention of acquiring one horse but ended up with three. You cannot turn down a bargain! Neither should you!

There are special offers available to existing owners. Please call either myself or Chris at the office in the next few days for details.

Firstly we bought a horse for Tim which Tim rates the best buy of the sale in "Patrixbourne". Those of you at the stable visit at Tims today will have heard his exciting plans. Get ready for the photo in the winners enclosure over both hurdles and fences.

Secondly we bought "Ifatfirst" A six year old who has won 4 times in only 18 starts. His half brother was beaten only 2 lenghts by Triumph Hurdle winner Walkon last year. An exciting dual purpose career is on the horizon.

Finally a little gem in Feeling Stylish. An amazing offer applies to this one.

Please ensure you call the offer as you will not believe the offers we are doing for existing owners.

Just one bet and one winner for the main line last week as the National Hunt season is now starting to get underway properly. The Tim Vaughan line was again on the button once again this week.

This week is very quiet as we have no runners. I will be on line next week with a longer blog.

Have a great and flu free week.

All the best

Steve

Blue Noodles Runs Another Fine Race.

Tough 3 year old Blue Noodles ran a career best race at Brighton on Thursday when finishing 2nd in a competitive handicap.

Blue Noodles was claimed out of a Leicester seller in August and hasn't stopped improving since, in just 3 runs for Diamond Racing he boasts form figures of 112.

After a long season Blue Noodles will now have his winter break and will be back on the track early in 2010.

11th October 2009

Steve's Sunday update!

Well its been an exciting couple of days in Paris where Ogre ran her heart out to finish 6th in the Listed race at St Cloud. The race was tremendously exciting with jockey Andrew Heffernan riding the perfect race and exactly to instructions. Kicking on the home turn Ogre went three lengths clear and was still clear at the 2 furlong pole. However the jockey reported that at the furlong pole she struggled for breath and was run out of it in the final furlong. However she was beaten only 4 and a half lengths to post a career best run. We were originally going to send her hurdling but to be fair to the tough filly we have decided to give her a wind operation and postpone the hurdling campaign for 12 months.

Should anyone want a DVD of the race these can be ordered at a cost of £12.50. Please just send a cheque to the office should you want one. We are in no doubt that with a wind operation Ogre will improve again next season and a further raid to France could be on the cards before she embarks on what we believe could be a hurdling campaign ending at the Cheltenham festival in 2011.

What was apparent in France was the prizemoney levels. A claiming race carried a first prize of £21,000 and we will definately be aiming to win a few of those next year!

As John Gosden said correctly the BHA are spending £800,000 on renting plush new offices in the centre of London where the same offices in a different location would cost £200,000. Another £600,000 taken from the coffers of racing. Who cares as long as there are lots of ludicrously well paid jobs and plush offices for those in the kwangos! The fact that owners are walking away form their horses and they get no return in the UK doesnt matter does it! Disgrace!

This week we are busy with five intended runners. Sir George makes his comeback to the course after 18 months off with many injuries. What a tremendous credit the horse is to be able to get back on the track. Well done to David Evans and his team.

Thursday sees Blue Noodles attempt a three timer at Brighton. Endeavoured has his first run after a break at the same course, and Quiquillo runs at Nottingham on a straight course after a very disappointing effort at Wolverhampton last week. Finally the old timer Boundless Prospect runs at Catterick on Saturday in a claimer.

Hopefully we will add to our tally of 13 winners so far in 2009.

Adios and have a good week.

Steve

Steve's Sunday update!

Well it is the Arc today and thousands and thousands of Brits descend on Paris for what is a great experience. However we are more concerned about racing in Paris next Friday when Ogre goes to St Cloud to contest a listed race. We expect around 40-50 of us to be there so should be a great couple of days. I spoke with jockey Andrew Heffernan last night and he is really looking forward to it. You will be able to watch the race in the UK betting shops. She has a daunting task and we would expect her to be a 100/1 shot but in racing you never know. We won the same race in 2001 with Diamond Max (44/1) and was beaten a short head with Jools (133/1) in 2002. It is doubtful that lightning can strike three times but if youre not in it you cant win it.

Ogre is the only runner for us this week and last week was somewhat disappointing. Quiquillo ran so poorly on Friday that we have withdrawn her from the French race. Mosqueta ran creditably however on her first start on Saturday night at Wolverhampton.

I spent Friday evening at the Excel arena in London watching the boxing contest PrizeFighter where Audley Harrison came back from the US to win the title and claim hopes of World Title success. No chance! I was at My Gym Finchley on Saturday morning and trainer Joe Charles who I know well told me his heavyweight Derek Chisora would have beaten all eight of them one after the other. Chisora fights on Sky Sports this Friday night so see for yourself.

This website is currently being re designed which will include video clips and interviews so watch this space!

Nothing else really to report this week. I will be back next Sunday to report on how our French excursion went and hopefully I wont be too hungover and the update will make sense.

Adios and have a great week

All the best

Steve

28th September 2009

Steve's Sunday update!

Well its Monday and back from Paris last night. A very interesting weekend in more ways than one. Saw quite a few bloodstock agents and some horses. Whilst we did not purchase at the weekend I am convinced that we will be able to purchase some of France's most talented recruits in the next couple of years!

It was quiet on the racing front last week when we had no runners. Should be more entertaining and interesting this week. Quiquillo is an intended runner at Wolverhampton on Friday evening and Saturday sees two probable runners. Firstly Endeavoured has his third run when contesting a 1 mile 2 race at Redcar and on Saturday night Mosqueta makes her debut. This exciting half sister to Ben Chorley has a really good future ahead of her. I would not be surprised if this time next year she is contesting listed class races in France.

I will be attending Wolverhampton on Saturday night as on Friday I am off to watch Prizefighter at the Excel arena in London which should be very interesting indeed.

Andrew Heffernan will be riding Ogre at St Cloud next week and Dean Heslop (passport permitting) will partner Quiquillo. It is nice to give two young promising apprentices the chance against the best French jockeys. One thing is for sure they will both follow riding instructions and will give it 110%.

I think we will have 40-50 people out at St Cloud next weekend so it should be a great two days. It is not too late for owners to book. Please contact Chris at the office for details.

Next update is Sunday 4th October where we will look at how the weeks runners have gone.

Adios and have a great week.

Steve

Steve's Sunday update!

Racing this week mourned Jamie Kyne at his funeral this week and I think it is fantastic that the apprentice championship will be named "The Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson" championship in honour of them. A fitting tribute!

Most of you know that my other passion outside horseracing (apart from family and friends) is boxing! This week a tragedy occured when 27 year old Darren Sutherland who won Olympic Bronze and who I believe would have become a world champion hung himself on Monday. He was at the McDermott-Fury fight which I attended 9 days ago and all seemed well then. The events of the last two weeks put life into perspective.

Well only two runners runner this week for us and one winner. Firstly 10 year old Boundless Prospect ran a fantastic race in finishing 2nd at Ayr.

Then not only a winner but the good old days of a monumental old fashioned Diamond Racing punt. The Betfair merchants did not ruin it for us as the horse was owned primarily by new owners who followed instructions. A lesson to those of you greedy £20 merchants who ruin the price for everyone. Noodles opened at 13/2 (8/1 in a place) before being backed down to 7/2. He drifted on course as he got loose in the pre parade ring and sweated up. Despite this we never had a moments worry as talented apprentice Andrew Heffernan made all on him. What a night for everyone.

Full congratulations to David Evans who has done wonders with both Boundless and Blue Noodles. Since taking on both horses from Ollie Pears. Boundless has won 3 and been placed 4 times from 7 starts and Blue Noodles has won 2 from 2.

This week sees only one runner for us when Quiquillo runs at Kempton next Saturday in her final run before she goes to St Cloud in Paris for a race on 9th October. Unfortunately I wont be there as I am in France looking at some very expensive potential new recruits to the Diamond racing team of horses. Chris will be there to look after everyone.

Pleased to report that Sir George has stood his first two weeks of training and is still sound. We expect him to make his comeback in either a Leicester or Lingfield Seller in Mid to late October.

Racing is only 4 weeks away from the big test case in the High Court where Dean McKeown and his legal team are taking on the British Horseracing Authority in what could be a crossroads case for the future of the structure of British Horseracing. The High Court Judges will decide!

The next column will be a day late on Monday 28th September due to my French trip.

Adios and have a great week.

Steve

Friday Night Takeaway Of Noodles & Cash!!!

Blue Noodles followed up his easy Chepstow victory with another win at Wolverhampton on Friday night and in the process land a monster gamble for Diamond Racing and his owners.

Blue Noodles record now stands at 2 from 2 for Diamond Racing since being claimed out of a Leicester seller in August 2009.

Noodles was 8/1 in one place (Generally 13/2) in the morning and by 3pm was best priced 7/2 after Diamond Racing told owners to "get on".

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "We were expectant this evening. He's done nothing but improve since Dave Evans got him and we advised our owners to back him. We advised owners to have a decent bet on him. Based on his gallops at home we just couldn't see him getting beat and Dave Evans said "If he handles the surface he wins". We were surprised that he drifted on course and was 6's at sp but we had all backed him heavily in the morning".

Chris continued "Andrew Heffernan gave him a fine ride. He pulled like a train for 5f but Andrew kept him together and let him go at the right time. We would expect more improvement with a stronger pace".

That was Diamond Racing's 13th winner from just 51 runners in 2009, plus a further 19 horses have been placed.

Boundless Runs A Cracker On Return.

Boundless Prospect ran a gallant race on his return to the track after a 6 month break at Ayr on Thursday afternoon when finishing second.

Boundless took up his customary position at the rear of the field under promising apprentice Andrew Heffernan and began to edge his way closer from 3f out before mounting what looked like a winning run inside the final furlong.

However Boundless was run out of it in the final 100 yards and the 15 time winner had to settle for the runners up spot. This effort bodes well for the winter months ahead.

Steve's Sunday update!

Well its been a very interesting week. A trip to Epsom, a great night of boxing at Brentwood and the purchase of possibly one of the best handicapped chasers in training. All part of a regular week in the life of Steve Goodwin and Diamond Racing Ltd.

Ogre ran another creditable race at Epsom on Thursday. There is no doubt that 7 furlongs is not her ideal trip but we had to run as it was our last chance before her handicap mark rose 5lbs. Her stalls aversion cost her once again as she was beaten less than a length into second and lost more ground than that in the stalls and having to run wide. I have spoken to David Evans about this and to be honest there does not seem much that a trainer can do about it. However it is very interesting that the one jockey who was able to avoid this problem was a 7lb claimer Andrew Heffernan. He told me that you just need to keep her interested in the stalls. Maybe he could teach the pros a thing or two.

Ogre is off to St Cloud in Paris now for a Listed race on 9th October. Plenty of owners are going for the Friday and Saturday. It should be great fun.

Enjoyed the company of some very nice owners at Epsom and on Friday it was off to the Brentwood Centre in Essex to watch the Heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and John McDermott. I confess I thought Fury was a certainty and acted financially accordingly. A very good friend of mine Joe Gregory is a professional boxing trainer and used to train McDermott. He told me I was mad and I would lose my money. Well he was right but I still won as Fury won a points decision which must go down as one of the worst decisions in British Boxing history. Luck was on my side!!

In the middle of all this we agreed the purchase of a very exciting and unexposed chaser. I will be writing to all owners this week with an amazing proposition which includes an offer of a full refund if the horse does not win. Wait for your mail!

We are in the process of arranging a stable visit to Tim Vaughan's. Invites will be sent in the post to you this week with the information above. Do not miss this stable visit. It will enlighten you. The visit is open to all owners whether or not you have a horse with Tim. After you have been there you will want to!

I expect to go to Wolverhampton on Friday night to see Blue Noodles. After the racing they have a disco until midnight. Make sure they dont play any Shakin Stevens to ensure I dont embarass myself on the dance floor once more!.

Adios and have a great week. Steve Goodwin

Another Fine Run From Ogre.

9 time winning filly Ogre put up another fine display when finishing 2nd at Epsom on Thursday.

Ogre's record at Epsom reads 11712 and in another 100 yards she would have won.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "Ogre is a fantastic filly, tough, game and always gives 100%. She does however have a tendency to miss the break and over 7f you can't get away with it. If she had broken well today she would have won, she was catching the winner all the way to the line".

Chris continued "Ogre will have a few weeks off now and be turned out. We intend to run in listed race at St Cloud on 9th October. It is a big ask but we have won the race before with Diamond Max and also got placed with Jools, we know what type of horse it takes to do well in the race and Ogre is that type."

6th September 2009

Steve's sunday update

Firstly welcome back to my Sunday update blogs. These will be on every Sunday from 10am and will highlight my thoughts on the previous week, the forthcoming week, issues affecting the racing industry and news surrounding Diamond Racing.

It would be inappropriate for me to start with anything else other than to express our sorrow at the events in Malton that led to the death of two apprentice jockeys one of whom had ridden for us. I am sorry that I never had the pleasure of meeting Jamie Kyne who rode Foreign Investment for us earlier in 2009. Jamie was without doubt one of the most talented apprentices in the country.

He was originally apprentice to our trainer Declan Carroll who has nothing but praise for Jamie. Declan provided the talented young rider with his first winner in December 2007. Carroll said: "It is very sad. I know his mother and father and they will both be gutted. "I brought Jamie to this country from Galway. I saw him riding at the Kempton Breeze-Ups. He was in between Richard Hughes and Norman Williamson and I thought he looked good. I made some enquiries and he then came up to me at the sales and said he wanted to be a jockey. He was a good rider and had a lovely personality."

Jan Wilson was the other apprentice who died in the fire. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families. Everything else seems so irrelevant now but................

Two winners out of two for Diamond Racing last week both trained by David Evans and both ridden by promising young claimer Andrew Heffernan.

Firstly Ogre, adopting front running tactics made all to win at Epsom. She probably heads back to the same venue on Thursday followed by a trip to St Cloud in Paris for a Listed race on 9th October, then its eight flights of hurdles and who knows where that will take her. It is a race we won with "Diamond Max" and was second with "Jools" in the past. What a great day and experience for owners.

Blue Noodles was acquired from the Ollie Pears yard after finishing third in a Leicester Seller. We identified that previous connections were using the wrong tactics on the horse and therefore claimed him. Our opinion was vindicated when he ran out a ready winner on Friday at Chepstow.

This brings our strike rate for 2009 to an amazing 25%, well not so amazing when you look at our strike rate in 2008 which was similar. Careful race planning and selection, analysis of the tactics required and having good trainers and jockeys are the required ingredients and it works!

However we do want to increase quality and have spent a lot of money in the last 5 weeks and the spending spree is not over yet! Watch this space!

We have moved into the National Hunt sphere now and have acquired the talents of the future National Hunt champion trainer in Tim Vaughan. Together we will achieve our aim of initially having Cheltenham Festival runners and then Cheltenham Festival winners. Bring it on!

The forthcoming week sees Ogre entered on Thursday and Friday (Thursday the likley race), Gulf President entered at Bangor on Friday (unlikely runner) and Diamond Paula at Wolverhampton Saturday.

I hope to see many owners at the races this week and hope Ogre owners make sure their passports are at the ready.

Dont forget we now have a page on Facebook where owners can become involved interactivel. Just join facebook and search for Groups and type in Diamond Racing. Give Chris a call if you get stuck.

Adios and have a good week Steve

Blue Noodles wins on debut for Diamond Racing!

On his first start for Diamond Racing since being shrewdly claimed from the Ollie Pears yard.

Blue Noodles ran out a ready winner at Chepstow earlier today when ridden by rising star Andrew Heffernan who had been successful on Ogre less than 24 hours earlier.

Andrew once again followed his riding instructions to the letter as he settled Noodles behind the leaders before coming with a sustained winning run.

Noodles will attempt a follow up at Wolverhampton on 18th October where it is expected Andrew will partner him again.

Diamond Racing are renowned for their shrewd acquisitions both at the sales and from other trainers yards and Blue Noodles has proved the point once again.

Shares are available in Blue Noodles for a very special price of just £39.95 per month for the next 7 days only, for details please contact us.

3rd September 2009

Epsom specialist Ogre wins for ninth time!

Ogre won for the ninth time of her career with an all the way success at Epsom under talented apprentice Andrew Heffernan. Chris Morgan and Steve Goodwin were both at Epsom and provided the instructions to the jockey to ride forcefully from the front. This may have seemed surprising to some but they were convinced that this was the way to ride Ogre in a race that lacked any obvious pace.

Quickening to take a 6 length lead from the opposition, Ogres lead was reduced in the straight but she ran out a ready 2 and a half length winner.

It was a shame that the originally intended 8 runners were reduced to 7 as this removed the obvious each way betting opportunity but Ogre has shown the tenacity once again to win her 3rd race from 4 starts at Epsom.

As this was an apprentice race Ogre escapes a penalty if she runs before 12th September and two entries will be made next week at Epsom and Sandown. It is then intended to send her to France for a Listed fillies race before embarking on a hurdles campaign with Tim Vaughan.

So much to look forward to!

Sir George Set For Return.

Sir George is back in training after 2 years of injuries halted his career.

Sir George was considered “one of the stars” of Peter Chapple Hyam’s yard when a 2 year old but after just his second run an injury put a stop to his season.

He then returned to the track 7 months later on 5th April 2008 and Sir George won on his first start of his 3yr old career at Lingfield. Sadly that was the last time George was seen on the racecourse further physical problems.

Racing Manager, Chris Morgan commented “Sir George is now back in full training with David Evans. It has been a long road getting George back fit and well but he was a horse with a huge amount of talent”.

Chris continued “Paula and Sara who run our pre-training yard have done a great job getting him sound again. I think we will have to have a word with the handicapper because he is rated 80 and after his problems we want to give him the best possible chance and competing off 80 would be a big ask.”

23rd August 2009

Gulf President an encouraging 2nd on debut!

Gulf President finished a very encouraging second behind star juvenile hurdler Barizan on his debut for us and Tim Vaughan yesterday (22/8/09).

Bearing in mind it was his first start over hurdles it was very encouraging for the future. Gulf would never have the speed round a very tight Newton Abbot track and a lot of improvement can be expected.

Jocky Richard Johnson who rode Gulf said afterwards "the horse is a sure fire future winner and will give his owners a lot of fun during the 2009-2010 season and beyond."

22nd August 2009

Ogre set for hurdling career

8 time flat winner Ogre who is still only 4 years of age has been sent to rising star trainer Tim Vaughan to commence a potentially exciting hurdling career.

Tim will be giving intense schooling sessions to Ogre and we would expect to see her debut over hurdles within the next four weeks.

14th August 2009

Quiquillo Wins On Debut For In Form David Evans!!!

USA bred 3 year old old filly Quiquillo won on her first start for trainer David Evans over 6 furlongs at Chepstow on Thursday night.

Quiquillo had ran her last 2 races over 1m 2f. However a drop in trip of six furlongs and a change of trainer seems to have unlocked the key to this well bred filly.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “This was a remarkable training performance by Dave Evans and his team. Only a month ago this filly was running over middle distances and never looked like she could win a race”.

Chris continued “I am delighted for her owners and also for Dave Evans. He is one of the best trainers in the business and doesn’t get the credit he deserves”.

Quiquillo is now expected to attempt a follow up at Kempton on 26th September.

7th August 2009

Two exciting acquisitions for Diamond Racing!

Diamond Racing are delighted to announce two new acquisitions.

Firstly Tim Vaughan, the young star in the National Hunt training ranks, has been recruited to acquire a good hurdling prospect for the 2009-2010 season and has delivered with "Gulf President" who has schooled superbly over hurdles.

We have also spent £20,000 acquiring the ex John Gosden/Sheikh Mohammed horse "The Hague" who is an exciting dual purpose prospect.

These are very exciting times with these two recruits and owners are sure to have tremendous fun with these two 3 year olds who both have amazing untapped potential.

6th August 2009

Diamond Paula Ready For Debut.

Diamond Paula is likely to make her racecourse debut at Chepstow on the 13th August in a maiden over 7f.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "Diamond Paula is a big filly and has taken sometime to come to hand, she never ran has a 2yr old because she was very backwards and we gave her time to strengthen".

Chris continued "Diamond Paula is a very nice filly and moves well, we have owned a few of her sister's including Diamond Yas and they have all won races for us".

2nd August 2009

Henry Cecil Takes Charge Of Burcott.

Henry Cecil today took charge of another Diamond Racing horse in the form of the superb 2 year old colt Burcott.

Burcott has been given time to grow into his big frame but is now ready to go into full training.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "Burcott is a lovely big colt who has done very well since we purchased him. He was not purchased as an early type. Our hopes were always to compete in the top 3 year old races in 2010. He has been in pre-training for a number of months and is now ready to go down to Warren Place".

Chris continued "He is nicely bred and is the half brother to 3 winners, Burcott is the 4th offspring and hopefully in time he will prove to be the best of them all."

22nd July 2009

Ogre Steps Back Into Handicap Company!!

8 time winning filly Ogre will step back into handicap company after 2 impressive wins in claiming company.

Ogre's record stands at, 8 wins and 4 places from just 21 starts and since joining the Diamond Racing and Dave Evans team she has been almost unbeatable in claimers.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "The reason we are so successful is because we place our horses in the right races, we don't run horses in races they cannot win".

Chris continued "Ogre has won her last 2 starts well and deserves another chance in handicap company we are also considering sending her hurlding at some stage".

20th July 2009

Diamond Laura Wins For The 3rd Time!!

Diamond Laura who cost just £4,000.00 at the Doncaster yearling sales won the 3rd race of her 2yr old career from just 7 starts (also placed twice) at Beverley on Monday evening.

Diamond Laura ran out an easy 5L winner under jockey Cathy Gannon, she was later claimed for £13,000.00 by Ruth Carr.

Diamond Racing would like to wish Ruth Carr all the best with the filly!!

16th July 2009

Amazing Ogre Wins Again!!!

Ogre took her winning tally to 8 wins from just 21 starts after running out a ready winner at Epsom on Thursday evening.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "She is a fantastic filly to own, she is everything you want from a racehorse, tough, game and knows how to win. She has run 11 times for us and won 5 and been placed twice".

Chris continued "Dave Evans (trainer) and his team have done a terrific job with this filly and a huge amount of credit must go to them".

7th July 2009

Diamond Laura Wins On Comeback!!

Diamond Laura won on her return to the track after a 45 day break.

Diamond Laura who had solid form before disappointing in a listed race at Beverley was given time off the track after running 5 times in just over a month.

Diamond Laura made light work of her opponents under Cathy Gannon and won by an easy 3 lengths at Wolverhampton.

Many people were surprised that we ran such a filly in a claiming race. However placing such a filly is difficult. She has won her maiden, would carry a penalty in a conditions race (which would be too tough a task) and has already ran in two listed races (finishing fourth in one). We feel that she cannot win a conditions or a listed race. Diamond Racing are here to produce winners for owners. 7 winners from only 36 runners (19% strike rate) in 2009 tells its own story and we will continue to place our horses in races where we think we have the best winning chance.

Laura now heads to Beverley on 20th July for a 5 furlong claiming race.

2nd July 2009

Ogre Wins At Epsom!!

Ogre notched up the 7th win of her 20 race career at Epsom on Thursday with a very impressive performance under jockey Paul Doe.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “She been a grand servant for us and to win 7 races from just 20 starts is unbelievable, Dave Evans (trainer) and his team have done a fantastic job with her”.

Chris continued “She ran well at Brighton last time but there wasn’t any pace on and they quickened away from her and she finished 3rd. Today we decided to ride her closer to the pace and that combined with a first time tongue tie seems to have worked perfectly”.

Ogre is sure to give her owners more success in the coming months.

26th June 2009

Ben Chorley "Fresh As A Daisy" After Run.

Trainer David Lanigan this morning confirmed that Ben Chorley is as "fresh as a daisy" after his run at Newcastle.

Ben Chorley now heads for "The John Smiths Cup" at York on 11th July 2009.

Chris Morgan, Racing Manager commented "Ben Chorley will only run in the race if the ground is on the soft side of good or softer".

Chris continued "We knew the ground at Newcastle wasn't ideal but we knew it was safe ground. Myself, David Lanigan (trainer) and Tom Queally (Jockey) walked the course before the race to ensure it was suitable and Ben wouldn't do himself any harm by running on it".

25th June 2009

Ben Pleases On Return!!

Ben Chorley put up a very pleasing display on his first start for over a year in the Class 2 Handicap Stakes at Newcastle on Thursday.

Ben Chorley finished 5th beaten just 4L on ground conditions that were on fast side for him.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "That was a most pleasing first run back, in an ideal world we would not have run on ground that fast but it was safe ground and the horse really needed a run".

Chris continued "He looked like he was coming to win but with the fast ground conditions and the fact he hasn't had a run for over a year was just a little to much for him. He had a good blow after the race and will come on a lot for that run".

The John Smith's Cup at York next month remains the aim for Ben Chorley.

24th June 2009

Ben Chorley Heads To Newcastle.

Ben Chorley who has been denied a run twice over the past few weeks will now head to Newcastle in hope of making his long awaited racecourse come back.

Ben Chorley was one of the favourites for last years John Smith's Cup before a setback closed his highly successful season in which he was unbeaten in all 3 starts.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "Ben Chorley is really in need of a run, David (David Lanigan trainer) cannot do anymore with him at home, he's in great form but you cannot substitute a run".

Chris continued "The ground at Newcastle isn't ideal but it is fresh ground, the going stick reads 7.9 and they will water again between now and Thursday so the ground will be safe".

18th June 2009

Bad Luck Hits Ben Chorley Twice In A Week!!!

The eagerly awaited come back run of Ben Chorley was again denied today at Ripon after an unfortunate incident forced Ben to be withdrawn from the race he won last year.

On the way to post a white bag blew in front of Ben Chorley causing him to bolt and jockey Danny Tudhope hit the floor. Danny Tudhope wasn't able to ride and was taken to the first aid room, thankfully Danny Tudhope only suffered a little bruising to his knee.

Ben Chorley was caught within a matter of minutes and despite trainer David Lanigan speaking to officials they refused to allow Ben Chorley to race.

Just a week ago Ben Chorley was due to run at Haydock but the rain that was due never came and he was withdrawn an hour before the race.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "It was very disappoiting for everyone however, the most important thing is that both horse and jockey are fine".

Chris continued "The plan was to win today which would have guaranteed a run in The John Smith Cup, however off a mark of 90 we don't think he will get in. It is very frustrating because last year he was spot on for the race before he had a setback and that forced him to miss the race. We will sit down with David Lanigan over the weekend and talk through the options".

11th June 2009

Ben Chorley Heads Back To Ripon.

Ben Chorley's come back run at Haydock on Wednesday was put on hold because ground conditions were too fast.

If ground conditions are suitable Ben Chorley will head back to Ripon on the 18th June to run in valuable "The Ladies Day" handicap, which he won last year.

2nd June 2009

Diamond Laura Goes On Holiday.

Diamond Laura who ran a disppointing race in the Hilary Needler listed race at Beverley is to be rested for the next 4 weeks.

Maiden winner Diamond Laura who had finished 4th in a listed race at York a week before was having her 5th run in just over a month and before the Hilary Needler her form read, 2214.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager commented "Laura will now have the next month or so off, Cathy Gannon (jockey) said she didn't feel like the same filly she had ridden twice before and said she felt flat".

Chris continued "That was her 5th race in just over a month and it may well have been the case of too much racing in a short space of time even though she seemed well at home. There is a race at Windsor at the end of June that we may have a look but we are not in a rush with her".

16th May 2009

Diamond Laura 4th In Listed Race!!

Diamond Laura finished 4th in the first listed race of the season for 2yr olds at York on Friday.

Diamond Laura who has some smart form had won her maiden just 4 days earlier but found the softer going very much against her.

Cathy Gannon who was again on board commented “It was like running 7f on that ground today and she hated it, but to her credit kept on all the way to the line”.

Depending on how Diamond Laura comes out of the race she could now head to Beverley for the “Hilary Needler” listed trophy on the 27th May.

14th May 2009

Diamond Laura Takes Her Chance!!

Diamond Laura steps up in class at York on Friday when she contests the fillies listed race over 5f.

Diamond Laura who won a decent Wolverhampton maiden just 4 days earlier will once again be ridden by Cathy Gannon.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "This is a big step up for her but in fairness she's done little wrong in her 3 starts and her form has a solid look about it. It's only 4 days since her last run and it maybe a bit soon but she's had just the one canter and Dave Evans (trainer) reports she was in fine form this morning".

Chris continued "We wouldn't want any more rain because she does want fast ground. The plan after York is to give her a few weeks off and then head to Royal Ascot for the Windsor Castle Stakes".

13th May 2009

Torrens Retired.

Six time winner Torrens was retired by his owners Diamond Racing today.

Torrens ran his final race for his owners on Monday at Wolverhampton. Torrens raced 58 times and saw the winners enclourse on 6 occassions and was also placed 13 times and won over £51,000.00 in prizemoney.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "He's been a great servant to racing and always gave 100% in his races. He's had a breathing problem for some time now and although he's had a wind operation it didn't appear to be sucessful".

Chris continued "He is a 7yr old now and isn't getting any younger and we just felt the time was right to retire him and it was also the right thing to do for the horse. We have found him a very nice home and he will be re-trained as an eventer".

11th May 2009

Laura Heads For Listed Race After Maiden Win!!

Diamond Laura who finished second on her first two starts broke her maiden tag at Wolverhampton on Monday.

Diamond Laura had finished 2nd to the smart colt Monsieur Chevalier on her debut and was then beaten a nose on her second start at Windsor.

There was no mistake third time when she led the field from start to finish under Cathy Gannon.

Diamond Laura now heads to York on Friday for a fillies listed race.

28th April 2009

Hisaronu entered for Group 2 at Royal Ascot!

Trainer Henry Cecil revealed today that he has made an entry for the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot on 18th June for Hisaronu.

Henry Cecil does want to miss the opportunity should Hisaronu make the progress he is hoping over the next two months.

27th April 2009

Diamond Laura beaten a nose

Unbelievably Diamond Racing horses suffered their 2nd short head (nose) defeats in three days. Following Hisaronu's nose defeat on Saturday night, the same misfortune occured for Diamond Laura.

Jockey Paul Doe had put up one pound overweight and this ended up proving significant. Without doubt Laura will soon break her maiden tag as she is a tough and genuine filly.

A fillies only maiden at Wolverhampton on Monday May 11th will see Laura's third attempt to break her maiden tag.

26th April 2009

Ben Chorley Almost Ready For Action.

Ben Chorley who was unbeaten in all 3 of his starts last season is almost ready for a return to the track.

A race at Newmarket on 16th May has been pencilled in for the flying grey to make his seasonal reappearance, providing the ground is good or softer.

25th April 2009

Hisaronu Nose So Close.

Hisaronu having only her second career start just failed to break her maiden tag at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening.

The Henry Cecil trained 3 year old filly made an encouraging debut at Yarmouth a few weeks earlier.

Hisaronu continued her improvement when beaten a nose by the well touted Michael Jarvis filly, Ballet Dancer who was sent off the 6/5 favourite.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "That was a very pleasing second run, she was still very green and will come on for the run again but she seems to be progressing well".

Chris continued "Hisaronu is a big filly and will be better suited by a galloping track but we are not in any rush with her".

22nd April 2009

Foreign Investment's Fine Form Continues.

The David Evans trained 3yr old filly continued her fine run of form when finishing 2nd at Catterick on Wednesday.

Foreign Investment a 2 time winner on the a/w in recent months was having her first run on turf and showed more than enough to suggest her owners will be having a lot more fun over the coming months.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "This was her first try on the turf and also on ground this fast and she ran a great race".

Chris continued "Now we know she acts on fast ground we can start planning the rest of the season. She is a game and honest filly and will continue to provide her owners with enjoyment over the coming months".

14th April 2009

Hisaronu Pleasing On Debut.

Hisaronu made a pleasing start to her racing career when finishing 5th in a decent Yarmouth on Tuesday.

The Henry Cecil trianed 3yr old filly was badly drawn and raced wide for most of the race but still managed to get within 3l of the winner.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "It was a very pleasing first run. We have always thought a lot of this filly but she stands at around 17 hands and Henry has been very easy with her".

Chris continued "Whatever she does in her first few runs will be improved upon, she is such a big filly and can't be rushed but everyone feels she is something to look forward to".

9th April 2009

Diamond Laura creditable second on debut!

Diamond Laura ran a very promising race when finishing second in a Folkestone maiden. She ran a very creditable race under Paul Doe and was beaten only by the very highly touted and regarded "Monsieur Chevalier".

Laura now heads to Windsor for a Monday night race on April 27th where she will contest a maiden against her own sex.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan who was at the track said "We are delighted with the run. She wouldn't want the ground any softer than that. Dave Evans will now give her a few days off and then we head to Windsor for monday night racing with her later in the month."

7th April 2009

Diamond Laura Ready For Action!

Diamond Racing and their owners have been in the winners enclosure 4 times (and 4 places) already in 2009 on the all weather (from just 9 runners) and they will start their turf season at Folkestone on Thursday.

Diamond Laura a 2 year old filly by "Lucky Story" will be making her racecourse debut in the 5f maiden race and Paul Doe is booked to ride.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “It is always exciting for the owners when you have your first 2 year old runner of the season. Laura always looked like she was going to be early”.

Chris continued “She goes nicely at home but like most she will benefit greatly from the experience”.

Foreign investment makes it two wins from four!

Foreign Investment made it two wins from four starts when winning under Richard Evans at Wolverhampton this evening. Foreign had run very disappointly at Kempton on her previous start and despite extensive veterinary checks nothing was found to be wrong.

In a slowly run race she won the sprint to the line and hopefully the handicapper will not be too hard on her when she is reassesed. This was Diamond Racing's fourth winner in 2009. Rowland Chesterfield commented that he was happy with the start to the season and expected many more victories in 2009 with the big guns not yet on the track!

Flying Grey Ben Chorley Is Back.

Ben Chorley who was unbeaten in all of his 3 starts last season is now back at Revida Place with David Lanigan after his winter break.

Last season saw huge improvement from Ben Chorley. He started the season off a lowly perch of 74 and by the end of 2008 the flying grey was rated 92.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "I was down at Newmarket on Saturday morning and Ben looked in fine fettle. He was proving to be a bit of an handful for his lad, he just loves his work".

"He's had a good break and we are all looking forward to this season. He had a little setback just before the John Smith's Cup last year and after that we decided to knock him off for the rest of the season".

Chris continued "The John Smith's Cup and Cambridgeshire are Ben's main aims this season and we expect to get one or maybe 2 runs in before".

Boundless Having A Well Earned Break!!!

Boundless Prospect who has been in a rich vein of form over the past few months is now having a well earned break back at Diamond Racing's yard.

Since joining the Dave Evans team of horses back in November of last year his race record reads: 7 runs, 3 wins, 2 seconds and 2 thirds.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "He's been in outstanding form over the past few months but he is a 10 year old and deserves a break".

Chris continued "He will have 5-6 months off down at our yard in Bedfordshire and all being well we will bring him back for another all weather campaign later on in the year".

What a fine credit to racing Boundless has been and we have no doubt this will continue in the 2009-2010 season.

13th March 2009

16th winning Cheltenham in a row!!!

Diamond Racing kept up its unique impressive record with its information line recording the 16th winning Cheltenham in a row since forming in 1994.

A total of 13.68 points profit was achieved, winners included:

Kauto Star (3/1)

Zaynar (5/1)

Big Bucks (7/1)

This brings the total profits to 75.03 points profit in 2009 (42.41 points main line and 32.62 points on the all weather line).

If you look back to previous updates, our betting guru said that Kauto would beat Denman late in 2008!!

Roll on Aintree!

Sunday Update.

Well only 2 days until the start of Cheltenham and this could be our most profitable Cheltenham ever, we have some outstanding bets already in our book.

Our main line last week also set us up nicely for Cheltenham with four bets: This comprised of two winners and two each way bets that finished second.

We had one runner and one winner last week in the shape of 10 year old Boundless Prospect who won the 15th race of his career with ease at Southwell. He was due to run there again on Wednesday but he picked up a stone and was a little lame so he will bypass that. He is now likely to reappear at Southwell over 1m 4f at the end of the month.

Our only runner this forthcoming week is Foreign Investment (winner last time out) who is due to run on Thursday evening at Kempton in the 9.20 race.

Lets hope we all have a great week at Cheltenham.

Chris & The Diamond Racing Team.

Young at heart Boundless wins again!

10 year old Boundless Prospect recorded the 15th success of his career and his 4th for Diamond Racing when he won comfortably at Southwell under promising apprentice Patrick Donaghy. The result was never in doubt once Patrick sent sail for home.

Boundless is due to reappear over the same course and distance next week.

This was Diamond Racing's 3rd winner from only 7 runners so far in 2009 and 127th in total.

1st March 2009

Sunday Update.

Well Cheltenham is almost upon us and from our point of view we cannot wait.

We have some outstanding ante-post bets already and I can not recall a year when we have been in a better position with our ante-post selections. Bearing in mind for 14 years we have always made huge profits at Cheltenham that is a strong statement.

All our horses have wintered well and are showing up well upon their work being stepped up at the various training establishments. Our first two year old runner is likely to be "Diamond Laura" who is demonstrating to trainer David Evans that she is an early type with the right attitude. We expect her to be on the track before the end of April.

Our record so far this year is 2 winners and 3 places from only 6 runners. Business as usual some would say. We are hopeful of another good year again in 2009 after finishing 11th in the owners table for number of winners in 2008.

We have just the one runner this week, Boundless Prospect at Southwell on Tuesday. He's been in great form since joining Dave Evans and another bold show is expected.

Have a good week

All the best

Chris and the Diamond Racing team

23rd February 2009

Monday Update.

Sorry that the normal Sunday update wasn't on yesterday but I was travelling back from South Wales after a stable visit to Dave Evans.

I met many owners the evening before the stable visit in one of the local hotels and the next morning the manager said they haven't taken as much money in the bar on a Saturday for many years, not sure what he was getting at.

The stable visit was very enjoyable and I have to say it was one of the best we have had for many years, Dave Evans does have his own style greeting his owners.

Owners saw Boundless Prospect, Miss Gibbs and Diamond Laura (both 2yr olds) put through their paces on the gallops and a few of Dave's other horses.

After that we had a tour around the stable and many owners had their photo's taken with their horses and recent maiden winner Foreign Investment, Dave then treated everyone to breakfast rolls with tea and coffee at The Park Hotel.

Moving onto racing news, we had one runner and one winner last week in the form of Foreign Investment who built on her promsing run a month ago when winning the 7f fillies maiden on Friday night.

Our next runner is Boundless Prospect on 3rd March at Southwell.

Have a great week!

Chris

Investment in Foreign pays off!

Foreign Investment having only her second start ran out a battling winner of her 7 furlong maiden at Wolverhampton. Given a positive ride by Paul Doe, who was having his first ride and winner for Diamond Racing, the filly hit the front on the bend and stayed on strongly to repel the challenges of two highly regarded newcomers.

The was Diamond Racing's second winner of 2008 and 126th in total since forming in 2004. Trainer David Evans reported that the filly will be given a three week break to get over the exertions of two fairly quick races.

Managing Director Rowland Chesterfield is adamant there are more races to be won with the filly and Chris Morgan, Racing Manager who was present at the course expressed delight at the success. "It is great for all owners, some for whom it is their first experience of racecourse ownership."

15th February 2009

Sunday Update.

Well I (Chris) have just got back after spending the weekend in Cardiff and watching my beloved Wales beat England in the 6 nations.

Wales completely dominated the first 40mins but unless we start to turn that dominance into tries and improve our spot kicking game I don’t think we’ll be winning our third Grand Slam within the last 5 years.

Back onto horse racing, there wasn’t much action for us last week in terms of our own horses running or main line account bets due to the bad whether conditions over the past few weeks.

However we had another winning weekend with the 3 bets on the main line which is over 25 points up already in 2009.

We have one runner this week at Wolverhampton on Friday in the form of Foreign Investment who ran with much promise on her only start to date 3 weeks ago.

Then on Sunday 22nd we have a stable visit down at David Evans, any owner wishing to attend who hasn’t already put their name forward please call the office on 01525-853667 by Thursday.

Have a great week.

8th February 2008

Sunday update

As far as the racing week has been concerned it has been decimated by the snow. This was exremely disappointing for our ante post bet on the Tote Gold Trophy. We had backed this horse at 20/1 and he was due to be around 7/1 on the day and we felt he had an outstanding chance. Nethertheless only one bet on the week which was a 4/1 winner on the all weather!

The most pertinent story for us on the week was the Mail on Sunday expose on what we consider cruelty in the horseracing industry. They unearthed by going undercover some sad aspects of racing. Of the 18,000 racehorses born each year 10,000 are slaughtered. Due to the economic downturn owners and breeders are having horses slaughtered for meat money. They went undercover at a slaughter house where foals and yearlings were shaking as they heard guns going off awaiting their turn. They were seen biting each other they were so sacred. The BHA do nothing as there are no rules being broken. However we believe that something could and should be done.

Denman was beaten on Saturday which vindicated our ante post position for cheltenham once again as we have two horses ante post in the race each way that are significantly shorter now than when we backed them.

I (Chris) am in the office all week so feel free to give me a call if you need anything. Next update a week today.

Boundless Continues His Fine Form.

Young at heart 10yr old Boundless Prospect continued his fine form when finishing 2nd in a competitive handicap at Southwell on Thursday.

Since Boundless Prospect moved to trainer David Evans in his 6 races for his new trainer his form figures read, 213312.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "He's a great old servant and we all think the world of him, he's as game as a pebble. If all horses were like him it would be easy".

Chris continued "Dave (trainer) and his team have done a wonderful job with him. He's got a few problems in particular with his back but he gets regular treatment for that and seems to be thriving at the moment".

1st February 2009

Sunday update!

The month has ended with outstanding results for us on our betting line. We made 52.5 points in total (27.5 points on the main line and 25 point all weather line). We are delighted with the start and without doubt this will be the 16th consecutive year of profit for our owners.

We had no runners during the past week but expect Boundless Prospect to run at Southwell on Thursday.

Welcome back to another old owner Brian Palmer from Scarborough who is back in the fold. We first met Brian at York probably 8 years or so ago.

Great Leighs has sacked 60% of its staff pending finding a new owner for the racecourse. I hear through the grapevine that some trainers are on the verge of amalgamating or quitting.

Great to see one of our trainers from 2008, Ollie Pears landing an old fashioned gamble 16's into 7's during the week.

Do not forget we are only 3 weeks away from the David Evans stable visit weekend. Full details to those who have registered will be sent out 7 days before the event. It is not too late to register your interest. We are there the night before for anyone wanting to socialise.

Not too much else to report on what has been a relatively quiet week for racing. With the arctic weather forecast we may have to rely on all weather racing for much of next week. Lets hope that we do not have any more abandonments at our "all weather" courses!

Take care everyone and have a great week.

25th January 2009

Sunday update!

Great to get off the mark for the year when Boundless Prospect won at Wolverhampton for us on Wednesday. Although last year we achieved 19 winners we did not get off the mark until the end of March so we are ahead of schedule.

Foreign Investment was our only other runner of the week when she finished a promising fourth. This was her debut and she is now 3 years of age. She had physical problems at 2 and then trainer, johnny Dekeyser, done a fantastic job with her. She was brought back to the UK due to the lack of opportunities for her abroad but we would like to thank him for his fantastic efforts with the filly. All things being well she should run again in about a months time.

The Irish Sunday Times published a worrying article where it was pointed out that many Irish owners are abandoning their horses or slaughtering them due to the economic downturn. Let me reassure that at Diamond Racing we love all our horses (fast or slow). When they are retired we find them all a home and keep tabs on them. We believe that all animals should be treated with the utmost respect. WE do believe however that this is a problem that could increase dramatically and we call on the BHA to spend some of their funds to develop a plan to ensure that all racehorse owners are contractually obligated to do right by their horses or be struck off and face financial penalties.

Racing at Cheltenham on Saturday was truly exciting and we took many pointers from the meeting that will help our owners come the festival. Obviously we wont discuss the details in this column.

It was great to hear from an old owner Ray Bull on Saturday. Ray was last an owner with us 10 years ago. Ray is recovering from a serious illness and has now rejoined us. He sent an email to me after seeing us on at the races at Wolverhampton Wednesday. Welcome back Ray!

Take care everyone and have a great week.

22nd January 2009

Boundless wins again!

Boundless Prospect on his 90th career start recorded the 14th victory of his career and 3rd for Diamond Racing since we claimed him 9 months ago at Wolverhampton on Wednesday 21st January.

We had stepped Boundless up to 1m 4f for this race. Paddy Donaghy who had ridden him previously had said that he was desperately in need of a step up from a mile and 1mile 4 would be his trip. This had contradicted Jamie Spencer who when winning on Boundless last year had said he did not want a yard further than 1 mile 2 furlongs. Nethertheless his style of running suggested to us it was worth a go. Unfortunately Paddy was suspended and could not ride so another up an coming apprentice Dean Heslop took the ride.

This was Dean's first ride for us (and will not be the last) as he followed the trainers riding instructions to the letter before pouncing late on.

This was the first Diamond Racing winner in 2009 on the back of 19 winners in 2008. In 2008 Diamond racing finished 10th in the owners table for numbers of winners after finishing 10th in the owners table in 2006. Two top ten finishes in the owners table for winners in the last 3 years is sensational and credit must go to the Diamond Racing team, trainers and jockeys. However the most credit must go to our loyal owners who without their support and ownership, it would not be possible.

18th January 2009

Sunday update!

Well let's start off the week by giving us a pat on the back. The 2008 year ended with 116 points of profit (88 points main line and 24 all weather).

The first 18 days of 2009 are only upon us and we are 45 points up already (22 main line and 23 all weather). Our owners are dancing in money which helps at a tough economic time like this.

The weeks bad news for racing was the fact that Great Leighs has gone into administration. Then the amazing claim from the BHA that it was nothing to do with the economic climate. If the economic climate is not responsible then who is.................... well maybe could be the BHA for issuing a licence to a track that

1) Has a grandstand in the middle of the racecourse where the clients cannot see the racing.

2) Where facilities were so poor in November you could look into the ground and see sewage.

3) Where the financial backing was not strong enough.

For us it is a combination of the above factors and also the fact that commercial finance is so difficult to obtain for a business that appears to have a flawed financial plan. BHA should have foreseen this in my opinion.

This week we have two runners at Wolverhampton on Wednesday and Chris will definately be attending. Rowland is very busy with other commitments at present so may not be attending.

The two David Evans yearlings are in full training. Diamond Laura has already prompted words of encoragement from the trainer. Both we hope will be fairly sharp early two year olds which is what we are aiming for this year. For those of you going to the stable visit in February you will see both fillies hopefully flying up the gallops.

Cheltenham is under two months away and I cannot wait. Two reasons. We love the spectacle but secondly and more importantly it has proved to be a money making machine for our owners over the last 15 years.

Take care and have a good week.

11th January 2009

Sunday update!

Firstly we think the BHA deserve a pat on the back for arranging extra fixtures during the last week. It is good to see them proactive in ensuring that racing continued despite the very cold spell we have had. We dont know if you are the same as us but when the weather is like this all we want to do is stay in and keep warm. We did go to Kempton during the week but to be honest I was glad to be going home. Did not enjoy it one bit.

Our only runner of the week was Ames Souer who had her first run in the UK after running in Belgium and France. She ran a creditable sixth place from a poor draw. She would have been placed with a higher draw and to be honest looked like a future winner in the grade. However physical problems have hindered her career and the next morning she was lame again. Combined with the fact that she bled during the race meant that the best thing for Ames was to retire her and find her a home which we have done. She was given to a Diamond racing owner Tony Johnson who will breed from her. What we do know is that she has a wonderful home and will be cared for and treasured.

We will not be having any more runners until the 21st at Wolverhampton where we are expecting "Foreign Investment" to make her debut and "Boundless Prospect" to contest a claimer over 1m 4f. Boundless has never raced this far and stamina will be a concern.

Following last weeks column we have been in contact with another of our owners Richard and Sue Perry. Their daughter Kathryn had the same illness as Olivia Goodwin, cancer, but unfortunately did not survive and died at the age of 14. Kathryn loved horses and our second filly in 2009 will be named in honour of her and will be called "Kathryn Perry". We really hope these two fillies who will be purchased in the autumn of 2009 will do their name sakes proud.

The BHA looks like it will be facing another test of its credibility and its rule book and application of it. We understand that Dean McKeown is now taking them to the High court. One of the countries most up and coming barristers, Ian Winter, will be representing McKeown. Winter assisted in the defence of the Kieran Fallon in the criminal trial. Winter we understand is operating on a no win no fee basis and is apparently confident of success. The implications for the BHA and racing should McKeown be successful are immense to say the least.

Our Main line recorded 89 points profit in 2008 and is already 10 points up in 2009. Our all weather service is already 36 points up since starting in November 2008. 15 years of continued success means that Diamond Racing is the only organisation that has been able to produce this. What amazes us is that we have not got even more owners than we have.

Our Cheltenham Ante Post position is sensational. Five ante post bets. All bets are trading significantly under the prices our owners are on. We hope and expect Cheltenham 2009 to be the 16th winning Cheltenham in a row for us.

Dont forget we have a stable visit at David Evans in February. Owners and their guests are welcome. Please dont miss this and give Chris a call in the office if you want to register your intention to go.

Take care everyone and have a great week.

Next update will be on Sunday 18th January.

4th January 2009

Sunday update!

We are writing this update on Saturday evening.

Before we start the most important thing is to wish our two owners Clive Duncan and Sue Fallon all the very best for 2009. Sue's 17 year old daughter Samantha contracted MRSA whilst in hospital in 2008 and died. Our love and best wishes go to them and we will be naming our next filly "Samantha Fallon" in memory of her. We will endeavour to ensure that it is a horse that will be good enough to honour her memory. Steve Goodwin personally went through trauma with his own daughter in 2008 so we can only wonder how they cope. "Samantha Fallon" must be a future star!!

During the last week we only had the one runner where Boundless Prospect ran a gallant third place at Southwell. The surface was against him as it was riding slower than standard. This type of surface favours front runners and does not suit come from behind horses. What is really interesting is that on turf Boundless is best at a mile and barely stays a mile and a quarter. However on the all weather he seems to be crying out for a trip. We will run him over a mile and a half at Wolverhampton on the 21st before reverting to his favoured Southwell over 1 mile 3 furlongs in March.

Only one runner this week when Ames Souer has her first run in the UK for 2 years after running in Belgium and France.

The main line continues to do very well. Another profitable year in 2008 ended with the last 5 bets yielding 4 winners at 15/2 7/1 6/1 and 1/1. The first bet of 2009 was a winner at 9/1.

The all weather line has provided 33 points profit in 7 weeks with the first bet of 2009 a winner at 9/2.

We are looking forward to the debut of Foreign Investment at Wolverhampton on 21st January. We are also likely to have two other runners on the same card with Boundless and Torrens both contesting the 1 mile 4 claimer.

One of the owners has asked that we explain our sectional timing concept. without wanting to give the full secrets away, we time every race over each 1/2 a furlong. A horse can only run to its optimum speed for s certain period of a race. A horse that it a potential improver can record an exceptional sectional time (1/2 furlong). We are able to use this analysis to put us a step ahead of the bookmakers. This timing also enables us to spot a "talking horse" i.e a horse whos odds is too short from what they have done visually where our stopwatch tells us that what was visual is not real. We can then set about finding something each way value against it. That is enough information!

Have a good week and hope to see many of you at the David Evans stable visit in February. It will be a very enjoyable time so please call the office if you have not alreay registered for it. You can either come just on the Sunday or stay overnight with us for an evening out on the Saturday. Guests are welcome.

Next update Sunday 11th January.

Take care and have a great week.

21st December 2008

Sunday update!

We had two runners in the week. Boundless Prospect finished 3rd at Southwell with Torrens finishing 4th at Wolverhampton. I know we keep going on but sellers and claimers are so much harder to win nowadays. We have had a very successul year with 19 winners in total. This is our second best ever year (25 in 2006 is the number one). Full credit must go to the Diamond team and the trainers and jockeys we have used this year.

We are really excited with the progress of "Foreign Investment"who has been given the time to mature but is showing plenty for us at home.

The week in racing has seen the rejection of the Dean McKeown appeal by the BHA with the resultant threat of high court action by the McKeown litigation team. Whatever the rights and wrongs the major loser out of this is racing itself. Lets us hope that 2009 brings an end to the bad publicity for the industry.

Our next runner is likely be be Torrens on 28th December at Lingfield where he steps up in trip. Boundless Prospect runs at Southwell on 2nd January. All owners of any horses and their guests are welcome to go as owners for the first runner of the year. We are able to do this as Boundless is owned 100% by Diamond Racing ane there are no individual owners of Boundless. We hope to see you there. Make sure you confirm with the office by 10am on Christmas Eve.

Looking forward to an exciting King George. More about that on the main line.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and New Year and to thank you for your support during 2008.

When 2007 finished we thought good riddance and welcomed 2008 in with open arms, only to find out that 2008 was horrific. The most important thing in life is the health of yourself and your loved ones. Without that you have nothing.

We wish everyone and their families the best of health for 2009.

Take care and have a good Christmas and New Year.

14th December 2008

Sunday update!

Well what a perfect Saturday. Sat at home and watched Boundless Prospect win at Southwell.

This week we have one likely runner at Wolverhampton on Saturday where Torrens bids to get back on the winning trail after three second places for us recently.

Fantastic news to see that the BHA are going to attempt to regulate the bloodstock industry. There are allegedly some very suspect practices that go on in the bloodstock world. An example of this is an owner telling a trainer/bloodstock agent that he has a budget of £20,000. That representative could then approach a vendor who is willing to sell for £10,000. The rep and the vendor agree to bid the horse up to £20,000 and then split the difference. We are convinced this happened to me personally when I bought my own horse (1993, pre Diamond Racing days), but proving it is very difficult. We hope the BHA are very successful in their aims.

Not so good is the prizemoney situation. Paul Roy gave a "well sounded speach" at the Gimcrack dinner which in my opinion made all thr right noises but lacked substance. He was saying that the BHA were in successful potential talks to bring more money into racing. These questions then have to be answered:

1. Why then have recent levy negotiations brought no concessions and resulted in the status quo?

2. Why have the discussions with off shore firms came to nothing? They are still not prepared to pay any money into racing!

3. Why has a call for the betting exchanges to shell out more money been met with deafening silence?

4. Why was their call for gambling on machines in betting shops to be included totally refuted and ignored?

So what has been achieved? Absolutely nothing!

Racing is poorer. Prize money continues to be a joke. You now need to finish second in many races just to cover your racing costs.

The BHA have a difficult job to do. We accept that. In many instances they do a wonderful job and in some they are severely lacking. Well Rome wasnt built in a day.

Take care and have a great week.

Boundless Prospect records 13th victory

Boundless Prospect recorded his 13th career win his 2nd for Diamond Racing and Diamond Racing's 19th winner in 2008 with an exciting victory in a mile handicap at Southwell. Ridden by top up and coming apprentice Patrick Donaghy, Boundless was given an ultra confident ride by Patrick coming from last to first to win in an emphatic manner.

Full credit must be given to trainer David Evans (2nd start today for Boundless) who has rejuvenated Boundless after some poor late summer runs.

Boundless is entered again next week. David will make the decision as to whether to run after assessing how he has come out of the race.

7th December 2008

Sunday update!

Well another second during the week when Boundless Prospect ran a creditable second at Wolverhampton on his first start for David Evans. Torrens ran a lacklustre fifth at Lingfield earlier today. The week ahead sees Torrens run again on monday with Boundless Prospect re-appearing in a handicap at Southwell on Saturday.

Well done to the BHA for re-scheduling the fighting fifth hurdle to Wetherby on Saturday where we saw a stirring finish.

The main line and our all weather service both continue to perform well with winners at 7/1 and 6/1 respectively at the weekend. Not many racing services can boast profits every year for fifteen years. With owners getting this for free it really is an unbelievable value for money offering that we provide.

Not much else to report this week.

Next update Sunday 14th. Take care and have a good week.

30th November 2008

Sunday update!

This is going to be a very quiet time of year for us. We have decided against a big push for the all weather season and instead are gearing up for some very exciting times for the turf season 2009. Horses like Ogre have had a very fruitful 2008 and could have gone on into the all weather. However she is going to need a break at some time and we believe she will improve next year.

This week we only have the one possible runner, "Boundless Prospect" at Wolverhampton on Friday night. He needs quite a few runners to drop out to get in which brings me onto my next point.

The impact of the credit crunch.

There are the obvious problems that racing will have. Firstly and most importantly will be the reducing of funding from the bookmakers. Racing depends on its levy from bookmakers for funding. With the advent of Betfair this has already reduced turnover which has resulted in prizemoney reductions in racing. Now we in 2009 we are going to see further reductions in the levy (there will less money gambled). Without direction and cost cutting from the people above, I can only see prizemoney falling even more than it is today which is going to have a negative impact on pther aspects of racing as well. Owners will reduce the number of horses in training. This has been evidenced recently by leading jumps trainer David Johnson indicating he will reduce his string by 60% in 2009. Trainers will have to reduce bills to attract new owners and many will go out of business.

Of more relevance to us will be selling and claiming races. In times gone by we have been very successful in this sphere. However the claiming races will get harder to win as owners get more desperate to win and drop their horses into this class of race. Owners will be willing to accept lower resale money for their horses. We will not be venturing into this area in 2009. It will be far too hard.

Good news for racing is that Kieren Fallon will be free to resume race riding in September 2009. Whatever the rights and wrongs of this sorry saga it is fantastic that we will see him riding again. One point that has not been picked up though is that if you were Messrs Culhane, Winston or Kelly you may be a little put out that they have been banned for committing the same offence, and some may argue less in one case, and Kieren has been let off with a warning!

New racecourse Ffos Las is set to open in June 2009. I have looked at the blue print. It looks a fantastic racecourse and unlike Great Leighs they have put the Grandstand in the correct position, on the outside of the track!

Take care and have a great week

23rd November 2008

Sunday update!

Well our only runner in the week finished 6th in Glinn(Mons) in Belgium. Ames Souer was really put in her place out there and her limitations were exposed. She next runs on 10th December at either Deauville or Kempton.

No runners scheduled this week.

Great to see racing get great publicity with the Scoop six on Saturday. It was the first time that racing has had a great week for some considerable time. I think the public generally got very interested in racing. My local betting shop reported to me that they had received a lot of £2 bets from first timers which can only be good for racing. Lets hope the regulators find a way of promoting racing on the back of this.

Kauto Star was defeated at Haydock on Saturday. Did not look the same horse as when he ran in Ireland. It is possible that he could have won if he had stood up but this was not the performance of a future Gold Cup winner. The King George will be very interesting.

We had quite a few e mails from owners this week who have told me they are making plenty of money from following my course bias analysis on the main line (We wont mention the details on here. It is for our owners to profit from) As we said this week this is a licence to print money as so many jockeys and trainers just dont get it. We dont need to help them. We can just continue to make money out of their errors and misjudgements.

Tak care and have a good week

2nd November 2008

Sunday update!

Well the week ahead sees two runners on the track. Endeavoured makes his debut and Torrens has his second run since joining David Evans from Ollie Pears.

The racing weekend was a great success. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

We are still debating whether to have another one next year. If we do it will be with a different format and will be on the first Saturday in November 2009.

In the more immediate future our next event takes place on 22nd February 2009 with a stable visit at David Evans' yard in South Wales. For those of you who want to go out on the Saturday evening (21st) we will meet up. Please contact Chris in the office for further details.

The horses looked fantastic at the pre training yard. Hisaronu in particular looked superb. We have numerous requests for shares in her. We would like to confirm that shares in her are sold and with a waiting list exceeding 20 we are not even taking any more names on the reserve list. The two David Evans yearlings are now virtually sold out (after the demand at the weekend) with only 2 shares left in one and 1 in the other.

Great to see Kauto Star return to his best at Down Royal on Saturday. He beat very little but the manner of the performance was very impressive. We believe he will reverse the form with Denman at Cheltenham.

Lots more to talk about next week on 9th November.

Have a great week.

Sunday update!

What a week for racing

Another racing organisation goes bust

Racecourses start to lay off staff as the recession bites

The situation is not improving. Two year old racing organisation Destiny Racing announced this week that they can not meet their financial commitments with the owner claiming to have lost £250,000 on the venture. The business model just did not work. There is no question of lack of integrity but once again this will put potential owners off the sport. Let us start by saying that Diamond Racing has been here for 14 years and is financially very sound. However we believe that more racing clubs and racing syndicates will go under in the next 12 months. Is there any regulation by the authorities on syndicates and racing clubs that hold clients money. The answer is no.

You may recall Alan Brazil racing club amongst many others going under in recent times. This does no good for racing. The solution is simple. Any one who runs a racing club or syndicate should have to put up a bond with the BHA (the size of the bond would be dependent on several things which I would not discuss here). Should that organisation not honour its commitments then the owners would be protected. At the present time the BHA do absolutely no checks to ensure that owners money is protected within these racing organisations. Indeed in 14 years Diamond Racing have never been asked to provide copies of any bank statements or been asked to provide evidence of financial well being. Yes accounts for limited companies only (not sole traders or partnerships))are filed in companies house but in my opinion even this is not enough.

As I have said my opinion is that the regulators job is to regulate fairly and effectively and protect the interests of people who have invested or paid money into racing organisations and shares. As we can see it does not happen. Perhaps the regulators should look into this and quickly!

Racecourses are seeing the credit crunch bite heavily. Doncaster is laying off staff. At Wolverhampton last night after racing we stayed to watch the UB40 tribute band (who were fantastic by the way). A couple of years ago you would not have been able to get a table and three bars would have been open. Last night there were so many empty tables and only one bar needed to be opened. It really is a sign of the times.

On the racing front What I also found amazing was the lack of strength in depth in the market. I can promise you this is true. My wife asked me to put £5 each way on a horse for her. I went to the bookmaker and put £5 each way on a 7/1 chance. They immediately cut the odds to 13/2. Never believe the markets at small meetings anymore. It takes no money to shorten a horse.

Also last night watched Prize Fighter run on his first start since being sold by us. Quite a strange feeling. Connections decided to leave the blinkers off and he did not try too hard once again. Whilst being looked after he looked a little over trained to me and I have my doubts that he wil win again if that is the new training regime. we hope for the horse and new connections sake we hope we arewrong.

Well last week we had one third place when One More Round did not try too hard at Lingfield. He is a similar horse to Prize Fighter. More ability than they produce on the track.

This week is very busy. Doncaster sales on Monday followed by Quiquillo at Yarmouth on Tuesday and Ogre at Doncaster on Friday.

Take care and have a great week.

Next update Sunday 26th October The Diamond Racing Team

12th October 2008

Sunday update!

Another winner during the last week for us when Ogre notched her 3rd victory for us and obtained our 18th winner in 2008 so far. More about this later on!

The forthcoming week sees One More Round reappear at 7 furlongs at Lingfield on Wednesday after failing to stay 1mile 2 furlongs last time out. Reine De Violette has a couple of entries and Torrens reappears at wolverhampton on Saturday night.

What we are seeing in racing now is continued evidence of an economy in severe recession. Claiming races once easy pickings are now seeing substantial entries with horses at lower prices that you will have previously seen. This is due to owners now feeling the pinch and looking for ways out with their horses. We think you will see many trainers either leave the sport or be forced to leave for financial reasons. Low prize money is one of the major contributory factors as is the effect of the "Fallon case" which we believe did nothing to encourage new people and money into the sport and for whom no one has been held accountable. This week you see Dean McKeown complaining at the BHA enquiry that evidence that may be beneficial to him has been destroyed. In a court of law this it appears that if this is true the case would have been thrown out. This is not in a criminal court and therefore the case is decided on "balance of probability" rather than "beyond reasonable doubt." However once again this is all doing racing no good at all.

Entering two horses in the same race. After Monday when Ogre and Diamond Yas ran against each other we are seriously considering whether to run two horses in the same race. We have always been of the opinion that if a race suits both horses then we should run both as we have different sets of owners for whom we are responsible for. Why should one set of owners be disadvantaged has always been our philosophy?

Let us explain what we told owners. The Diamond Yas line message told owners that we were extremely concerned about the form of the Henry Cecil horses. We stated that too may had disappointed and were emptying out 3 furlongs from the finish. We said that if Yas was not affected she would win but if she did disappoint that Ogre would be the one to take advantage. We felt Yas was too short in the betting with doubts over the wellbeing of the Cecil horses.

Most owners that backed Yas backed Ogre either as a saver or more than that. Some did not back Yas at all. Yas did disappoint and Ogre ran out a ready winner. Many Yas owners winged and complained and some were insulting. This was the first time Yas had been outside the first four and their behaviour was a total disgrace. Chris took the brunt of it and he questioned whether it was worth him continuing in this job. If Ogre had not won this would not have happened so should we therefore change our policy to appease some owners who should not be participating in ownership? Possibly! This is under review. It spoiled what was a fantastic performance by Ogre and her trainer David Evans who is surely one of the best trainers of mid-level horses in the country.

Take Care and have a good week.

Next message will be on 19th October.

Improving Ogre Wins Again!!

The David Evans trained 3yr old filly Ogre won the 6th race of her career and the 5th of this season in fine style on Tuesday at Pontefract.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager explained “Ogre has done really well since being sent to Dave Evans (trainer) and she looks to still be improving ”.

That was Diamond Racing’s 18th winner from just 50 flat runners!!!

28th September 2008

Sunday update!

Well a quiet week ahead on the racing front with no runners for us.

Chris was in Newmarket on Saturday at Henry Cecil's. A very enjoyable and enlightening morning and it was great to see Henry in great form and looking very well.

This week has seen Aidan O'Brien pulled into the BHA headquarters being charged with not giving correct instructions to his jockeys. Aidan was fined £5,000 and once again racing has shot itself in the foot. With the Paul Blockley and Dean McKeown internal "trial" starting tomorrow, at a time of economic crisis racing does not look a very attractive propostion to many outsiders. With all these negative headlines, prizemoney plummeting and the economic downturn, the regulators should be spending more of their time addressing how not to let the UK become a third world racing industry and not preside over its decline.

There are now too many horses trying to get in claiming and 0-60 handicaps. Race planners at the BHA have made an almighty mess of the fixture list in my opinion. There are more lower grade horses than good ones. In my opinion this does nothing for horse welfare. You are now going to get owners who are struggling to pay bills, cannot get their horses in any races and pay partly for themselves. They will refuse to keep them in retirement and you know what happens...... Makes me sick to my stomach.

On the home front had great news Saturday morning when my daughter's blood test results came back all clear. Whilst she will need lifetime monitoring we do not have to revisit the hospital for six months and we can now get on with our lives once again.

Next update will be Sunday 5th October.

Take care and have a good week All the best The Diamond Racing Team

22nd September 2008

Quiquillo Debut Full Of Promise!!

US bred 2yr old filly Quiquilo ran a debut full of promise at Kempton on Monday when finishing 5th of 14 in what looked a decent maiden.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "We were very pleased with that first run, she was very green indeed in fact we were all a little surprised how green she was."

Chris continued "We have always thought a lot of Quiquillo but she has taken sometime to come to hand but she shall improve an awful lot for that run and hopefully she'll be a very nice filly for next season".

21st September 2008

Sunday update!

Well two second places a third and a fourth from five runners in the week. Earlier in the season everything was winning but now we are hitting the crossbar.

On Monday "Boundless Prospect" ran a sulky sort of race and was then short of room eventually finishing fourth. He would not have won anyway.

On Tuesday we ran three horses in the same race getting second and third with Ogre and Prize Fighter. Ogre ran far better than I thought she would coming from out of the clouds to get second, possibly with a more positive ride she would have won. "Prize Fighter" looked all over the winner but didnt try too hard in the final furlong. This was his last race for Diamond Racing , our patience running thin!. One More round was not settled by Steve Drowne and as a consequence did not stay.

Wednesday saw "Diamond Yas run another tough and genuine race just finding one too good at Sandown.

The forthcoming week sees just three possible runners. "Quiquillo" makes her debut for us at Kempton on Monday whilst Boundless Prospect may reappear at Redcar on Wednesday if the ground is appropriate. "Reine De Viloette" returns after injury at Wolverhampton on Friday.

Our big moan this week is the BETFAIR FORUM. It is an absolute disgrace and should be closed down. Betfair issue statements to potential users stating that any defamatory allegations will not be tolerated but they continually allow people to post these.

When you complain to them they say they have not got the man power to continually monitor it. If they are not prepared to spend money on labour monitoring this then the forum should cease. On Monday a moron posted a claim that Boundless Prospect was not running on its merits then we had the same before the race on Tuesday insinuating this about Prize Fighter. Chris contacted Betfair and had the offending threads removed. However what annoys me is that spineless imbeciles can slander owners, jockeys and trainers behind anonymoty. Those that are offended then have to go and get legal and get a summons issued to get Betfair to release details. We have not done this as yet due to cost but from now on we will take them to the cleaners if we are slandered any more.

The racing weekend goes ahead in November but we have made a decision that it will be the last. Supply and demand. But we guess in six months we will get moans from people that dont go to them that they want them!

Our next update will be Sunday 28th.

Take care and have a great week.

Diamond Yas continues to be model of consistency!!

Diamond Yas once again put in a fine performance at Sandown on Wednesday when finishing 2nd to continue her fine run of form.

The Henry Cecil 3 year old filly boasts form figures of 312442 from just 6 starts.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “Diamond Yas is such an honest filly and gives her owners a lot of fun. She has never been out of the first 4 and there have been occasions this season when conditions have been against her".

Chris continued “She deserves to get her head back in front and Henry is hopeful she’ll be able to do so before the season comes to an end".

In the past 2 days Diamond Racing have had 4 runners with form figures of 232. Diamond Racing have had 17 winners and 18 placed horses so far in 2008. An amazing 61% of runners have won or been placed at home and abroad.

6th August 2008

Improving Ogre Completes 4 Timer!!

The David Evans trained 3yr old filly Ogre completed her 4 timer at Brighton in fine style on Wednesday.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager explained “We claimed Ogre out of a Brighton claimer just over a month ago and she won a claimer for us only a week later at Chepstow”.

Chris continued “After her win at Chepstow Dave Evans (trainer) told us she was a much better type and felt he had improved her, so we aimed her at the Brighton race and Dave was proved right. She won well and her owners were told to have a good bet on her”.

“Dave feels she is still improving and there are a few options for her because she seems to win over any trip from a mile to 1m 2f, there is a race at Bath in a few weeks that we shall take a look at”.

That was Diamond Racing’s 17th winner from just 45 flat runners!!!

7th July 2008

Ames Souer & Dekeyser Prove Point!!!

Ames Souer the 5 year old old mare who suffered training setback after setback when trained in the UK gave Johnny Dekeyser his first win as a trainer for Diamond Racing in Ostend on Sunday with a breathtaking 4 lengths victory.

Ames Souer only raced 7 times in the UK due to injury and never made the frame once. Diamond Racing were advised to retire the mare but we felt that if given enough time she would be able to show she had ability!

Many eyebrows were raised when we sent Ames Souer to Belgium to be trained by Johnny Dekeyser. Many thought is was a foolish decision. However Diamond Racing always felt that Johnny Dekeyser would make into a top class trainer.

On Sunday 6th July on her first start after 18 months off the track in what looked a decent maiden (with 2 ex English trained horses and a German horse in the field of 12), Ames Souer was tissued in at 25/1, by the off she started 3/1 favorite and won as expected by her trainer never coming off the bridle.

Diamond Racing founder Steve Goodwin said “We have always thought Johnny would make into a very decent trainer and after the manner in which Ames Souer won this quite clearly proves this without a shadow of a doubt”.

“To prepare a horse like he did after having so many problems and 18 months off the track is an outstanding training performance and he’s proved a lot of people wrong”.

That was Diamond Racings 16th winner of 2008 from just 37 runners in the UK and Europe!! A 43% strike rate.

Disaster strikes when victory does not matter

Tonight at Chepstow whilst Ogre was winning her third race on the bounce another of our horses One Night in Paris broke down and had to be destroyed. Jockey Richard Evans was taken to hospital with a suspected fracture.

One Night in Paris had been claimed from Mark Wallace and had previously had three starts and three victories for Diamond Racing. She did not deserve this ending to her life.

Racing manager Chris Morgan who was at the track with other owners was inconsolable and some owners were reduced to tears.

At Diamond Racing the welfare of our horses come first and this was only the second time in 13 years that this had happened.

Diamond Racing founder Steve Goodwin commented. "This is when you are sickened to your stomach. I have never been depressed when we have had a winner but today is the first."

"We wish Richard all the best in his recovery."

Grand Servants Earnings Now Reaches £270,000.00

At the grand old age of 10, One More Round gained his 8th career success when he followed up his Lingfield win with another victory at Wolverhampton on Monday afternoon.

Ridden by Richard Evans, One More Round was settled out the back before creeping into the race. He was still travelling well with 2f left to run.

When Richard asked the gelding to go about his business he quickly went a few lengths clear before idling in front before running out a ready winner by just under a length.

That brings Diamond Racings record so far in 2008 to 14 winners from just 30 flat runners!!!

Next Step “The John Smiths Cup" & "Cambridgeshire"

Progressive 4yr old Ben Chorley who has been a revelation this season for rookie trainer David Lanigan with three wins for all 3 starts will now continue his progress with a step up in class and a crack at The John Smiths Cup at York.

The Cambridgeshire is also another end of season target for the super tough grey.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “It’s already been a season to remember for Ben Chorley and his owners, Ben was almost retired last season and to see him running and progressing in this way is excellent“.

Chris continued “David Lanigan (trainer) will now prepare Ben Chorley for the John Smiths Cup at York and providing we get good ground Ben shall take his chance, we feel 1m 2f and a strong pace shall bring further improvement“.

“If everything goes to plan after York, Ben will have a month or so off before heading to Newmarket for the Cambridgeshire”.

20th June 2008

3 Runs, 3 Different Courses, Same Result!!

Super grey Ben Chorley completed his 3 timer in fine style when taking the 14k Ladies Day handicap stakes at Ripon on 19th June.

Ridden by regular partner Tom Queally, Ben Chorley was forced to make his own running when confirmed front runner My Paris was surprisingly held up. Tom increased the pace with 3f to run and Ben's opponents were not able to get to him.

Chris Morgan, Racing Manager said "Ben is improving fast for David Lanigan (trainer) and he won today regardless of the conditions. He hated the ground, course and he had to make his own running. He really wants good ground, 1m 2f and a lead".

"That was his 3rd win for David from just 3 starts but he will need to continue to improve because he now takes on the big guns in the John Smiths Cup providing we get good ground."

That was Diamond Racing 13th winner from just 27 flat runners in 2008!!

5th June 2008

One More Round Delivers’ A Knock Out Punch!!

Young at heart 10 year old One More Round won the 7th race of his colourful career at Lingfield on Thursday afternoon.

Ridden by Tom Queally, One More Round was settled out the back and was still hard on the bridle with a furlong left to run before going onto win by half a length.

Racing Manger Chris Morgan said “He is a quirky horse but that’s what we love about him. He knows more about the game than most of us but in these types of races he will always give his owners some fun. That typifies what Diamond Racing is all about. Fun enjoyment and winners.”

Chris continued “He finished second here yesterday only losing by a neck but today everything fell right for him. We bought him back in for 5,600 guineas. Although he is a 10 year old when you consider how consistent he is, that was no money. He will continue to pay his way in the right races".

Diamond Racing boast a record of 12 WINNERS from just 24 flat runners so far in 2008, an amazing 50% strike rate!!

3rd June 2008

Boundless Prospers At Leicester!!

Boundless Prospect won the 12th race of his career at Leicester on Monday afternoon.

Boundless Prospect winning over 1m 2f for the first came late and fast under a classic Jamie Spencer ride to win by a short head.

Former connections had tried Boundless Prospect a number of times over the 1m 2f trip without success but between new trainer Ollie Pears and Jamie Spencer they managed what no others have ever been able to achieve.

Racing Manger Chris Morgan said “We knew if he stayed he would win and Jamie was the perfect jockey for Boundless over this trip. We will now head to either Redcar on 20th June or Chepstow in early July.”

Chris continued “We are having an excellent season so far in 2008, from just 22 flat runners we have had 11 winners and that’s just in the last 2 months. We have a nice group of horses and much to look forward to.”

1st June 2008

It's Ben Again!!!

Ben Chorley made it 2 wins on the bounce for rookie trainer David Lanigan and owners Diamond Racing when taking the feature event at Newbury on Saturday evening.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "He is some horse, he had so many problems when he was a 3yr old that almost ended his career and he came back after almost a year off to win at Pontefract. Since then he's had a very bad case of colic and this was his first start since getting over that.

Chris continued "He's a very decent horse and that was his 3rd win from just 5 starts, Dave Lanigan and all the team have done an excellent job with him.

"We would like to dedicate this win to Olivia Goodwin (daugher of co founder of Diamond Racing) who is having an operation next week, we all wish Olivia a speedy recovery.

That was Diamond Racing's 10th winner from just 21 flat runners in 2008.

29th May 2008

A Perfect Night for all

Practicallyperfect won on her first start for Ollie Pears at Newcastle on Thursday night.

Perfect who had been off the track for over 220 days with a number of problems won the selling stakes by a head under a powerful Royston Ffrench ride.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "She's had loads of problems over the winter but Ollie has done an excellent job with her. Although she only won by a head we and her owners had a good bet on her.

Chris continued "To be honest we couldn't believe the price and when she drifted we just had more on. She was sold for 16,000 guineas which we are more than happy with considering the problems she has had and the fact that she is badly handicapped.

"I am told she will go to an Irish stud and I wish the new owners the best of luck with her, whatever they decide to do.

That was Diamond Racings 9th winner from just 20 flat runners so far in 2008!!!

27th May 2008

Three Wins On The Bounce For One Night In Paris!!

One Night In Paris completed her 3 timer at Leicester in the 1m 2f event on Monday 26th May.

Ridden by Richard Evans, One Night In Paris ran out a ready winner of the 2.35. This was her 3rd straight win since she joined Diamond Racing.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "Huge credit must go to Dave Evans (trainer) and his team who have done an excellent job with her. To win 1 race is hard enough but to win 3 on the bounce shows just what a good trainer Dave is.

Chris Morgan continues "We purchased this filly to give the owners some fun through the summer months and it is wonderful to see so many happy owners at the races each time she has won. This is what Diamond Racing was created for 14 years ago.

12th May 2008

David Evans 3 winners from 3 runners for Diamond!!

Diamond Racing’s fine run continued on Monday at Wolverhampton when Fangfoss Girls ran out a ready winner of the 2.40 race under Cathy Gannon, winning by 6L.

This was Fangfoss Girls first and only start for Diamond Racing and trainer David Evans.

This was Davids third runner for us and third winner in 2008. 100% strike rate!.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “That was our 7th winner from just 12 flat runners so far in 2008. We have had an excellent start to the season and we have some very nice horses still to come out.

Chris continued “We claimed Fangfoss Girls out of claimer a few weeks ago with this race in mind.

She was claimed from us and we wish the new owner and trainer the best of luck with her. We have an excellent record at claiming horses and then winning with them".

5th May 2008

Dazzling Diamond Yas Thrashes Field!!!!

The Henry Cecil trained 3yr old filly Diamond Yas thrashed her rivals at Warwick on Bank holiday Monday.

Diamond Yas who finished 3rd on her only start as a 2yr old last season ran out an easy 6L winner of the maiden under Tom Queally.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "That was a very impressive performance and although she's done it very easy, the value of the opposition is open to question.".

"We will wait and see how the handicapper rates her and then sit down with Henry and decide where to go next. It does look like she has a bright future!".

12 timer Yakimov Makes It 110 For Diamond Racing

Yakimov claimed the 12th win of his career at Southwell on Tuesday and sent the number of Diamond Racing winners to 110.

Yakimov is expected to return to the scene of his triumph in an attempt to follow up next Tuesday.

Not only that a piece of Diamond Racing history was made as Ollie became the first person to both ride and train a Diamond Racing winner.

Diamond Racing have sent out 9 runners on the flat so far in 2008, with 5 winners, two 3rd's and a 4th.

27th April 2007

One Night In Paris Claims ONE MORE WIN!!!

21st April 2008

Ben Chorley wins on red letter day!

Ben Chorley provided the first winner with his first runner for rookie trainer David Lanigan at Pontefract today. Ben's career had been affected by injury which meant as a four year old this was only his fourth start.

Now a two time winner more is still to come from this tough grey who always gives 100%.

Once again this is a testament to the skills of the team. Sara and Paula at the pre training yard for their fine work with him and to David Lanigan to produce him to win on his first start for nearly a year.

The win was also a fitting tribute to one of Ben Chorley's joint owner's Fred Stockley, a long standing owner, who sadly passed away a few months ago

His family decided to keep his share in Ben because "He loved his grey horse".

6th April 2008

Sir George Victory Pays Perfect Tribute!!!

Sir George trained by Peter Chapple Hyam and named after the joint founder of Diamond Racing, George Goodwin (who sadly passed away last year) paid the perfect tribute to his name sake by winning his maiden on Saturday.

Sir George who finished second on his first start last season, before serious injury almost ended his career, ran out a ready winner of the 4.40 at Lingfield.

Sir George who was having his first run for over 230 days was given an outstanding ride by jockey Alan Munro. Sir George broke well from stall 8 but ran very free for most of the race and sat second throughout. Alan had a difficult job on his hands with George not handling the downhill part of the course or the final turn. George was 2 lengths down in the straight and looked like finishing 2nd. However Alan straightened his mount up and within a matter of strides Sir George was bearing down on the leader, getting up on the line with something to spare.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “It was an outstanding ride by Alan and an excellent performance by the horse, he had some serious problems last season and all the team has done a great job with him”.

Chris continued “It is also a perfect tribute to George Goodwin who founded Diamond Racing back in 1994 along with his son Steve. Sadly George passed away in March 2007. Steve named this horse after him and this is a fitting tribute to George. We are also so pleased for his owners who after the promise of his debut run didn’t really have much to smile about last year."

Steve Goodwin commented "Once again this is a fine tribute to the skills of Sara and Paula at our pre-training and rehabilitiation yard who do such a fantastic job at bringing horses back from injury. We at Diamond are sure this is the start of some really fun times with Sir George for owners over the next two years. His half brother Don't Panic has blossomeed into a 110 rated horse so....."

30th March 2008

One Night, One Run, One Win!!

One Night In Paris won on her first start for Diamond Racing since being purchased out of the Mark Wallace yard a month ago.

Trained by Dave Evans and ridden by Tom McLaughlin One Night In Paris ran out a ready winner of the 7.50 at Wolverhampton on Saturday.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager commented "We have an excellent record with horses that we purchase from other yards and we are hopeful of picking up a few more wins with this filly".

Ben Chorley Ready For Action!

Ben Chorley is likely to be Diamond Racing's and David Lanigan's first turf runner of the 2008 season.

Ben Chorley showed much promise at 2 having won his maiden on just his second start. However serious injury ruled Ben out for almost the whole of his 3 year career.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager explained "Ben had quite severe knee and hock problems in 2007. These were so serious that at one stage is was touch and go if he would ever race again".

"Full praise must go to our own vets and our pre-training yard. They both done an outstanding job getting him sound again. David Lanigan (trainer) has continued where they left off.

All being well we should see Ben back on the track at Pontefract in the third week of April.".

"He is now in great shape and hopefully he can reward his owners for the faith they have shown in him".

Diamond Horses Ready For Turf Season.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan reported a clean bill of health for Diamond Racing horses ahead of the turf season.

Chris commented “Last season was tough, at one stage 55% of our string were sidelined with injuries. This was extremely disappointing for ourselves and our owners. Of those injured we expected wins for horses such as Sir George and Ben Chorley. Diamond Yas made a very promising debut under Frankie when finishing 3rd and would have won next time but she also picked up a knock and required an operation”.

Chris continued “ However I’m pleased to give all our horses a clean bill of health. The vast majority of our string are now in full training and the others will be going into full work with their trainers in the next few weeks.

We have some very promising 2 year olds and some nice 3 year olds so in 2008 we should hit the ground running this season as we try to emulate the 25 winners we had in 2006.

I would like to give a special mention to Paula and Sarah who run our pre-training yard. They have worked extremely hard to get these horses sound again and there is no doubt that both they and our owners will be rewarded in 2008."

Three New Trainers Set To Join The Team In 2008!!!

The growth of Diamond Racing continued in October when 3 new trainers were added to the already impressive list that includes double Derby winning Peter Chapple Hyam and also 11 times champion trainer Henry Cecil.

Chris Morgan, Racing Manager said "We are delighted to have taken on David Lanigan, Ollie Pears and Johnny Dekeyser. We worked closely with David while he was assistant at Henry Cecil's and we were extremely impressed with him. Johnny and Ollie have both ridden winners for us in the past. They are starting their training careers and we are happy to support them also. We are confident that all 3 will make excellent trainers.

We feel it is important to support trainers from the start of their careers who we believe will reach the top of their profession and this is definately the case with David, Ollie and Johnny.

Thanks to Diamond Racing and its wonderful owners, Jenna and Taylor will be staying at the Disneyland hotel and meeting Mickey Mouse.

Steve Goodwin said "Thankyou so much to all owners for supporting this appeal. We will post a picture on the site of Taylor in Euro Disney once she has been there."

A Debut Full Of Promise!!!

Diamond Yas ridden by Frankie Dettori produced a performance full of promise on her debut at Yarmouth on 19th September.

Diamond Yas, settled in mid-field, was just ridden out with hands and heels by Frankie running on to finish 3rd behind 2 horses with previous experience.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said "That was a very pleasing first run and Frankie gave her an excellent ride, she is a big filly and Henry (Henry Cecil trainer) really likes her but he tells us she will be an even better 3 year old"

Frankie Dettori commented afterwards "She is a lovely big filly and is a winner waiting to happen, she will be an even better filly next year".

Lady Lily records fourth victory

Lady Lily under a tenacious Tom Queally ride won the featured race of the day at Pontefract. Favoured by the firm ground Queally bounced Lily out of the stalls to hold a prominent position before holding off the challenge of Frankie Dettori aboard Mango Music.

This is Lily's fourth win from only 14 starts and she has also been placed in Listed company. A return to Listed company could be on the cards before the end of the year.

Rowland Chesterfield from Diamond Racing said "We are delighted with the way Henry and his team have handled Lily and would like to thank him for the enjoyment that we have had with her".

1st September 2007

North, South Double Denied!!

Diamond Racing's colours were seen up North and down South on Saturday in the shape of Diamond Hurricane at Ripon and Prize Fighter at Sandown and both found just one too good.

In the opening race at Ripon Diamond Hurricane finished what maybe have been an unlucky second after drifting from one side of the course to the other, still managing to finish second. He was later claimed.

Prize Fighter has been in cracking form since joining the Henry Cecil stable and almost collected the £15k handicap at Sandown. Prize Fighter lead from the start but was collered on the line and went down by just a head.

Racing Manager Chris Morgan said “Both horses ran very well today and we were a little unlucky not to get at least one winner. Diamond Hurricane was later claimed by Mark Wellings and we wish Mark the best with him. Hurricane is only small and he’s had a few problems this season but from 9 races for us he won 2 and was also placed twice so we can't complain”.

Chris continued “We have had a frustrating season up to now because many of our horses need fast ground and we haven’t had much of that this year and those that needed the soft have been injured. However we are still hopeful of a few more winners before the end of the season and we have three nice 2 year olds still to come out”.

13th August 2007

Lady Lily Adds To Her Paddock Value!!

The Henry Cecil trained filly Lady Lily added to her paddock value on Sunday 12th August when taking the feature race of the day under Richard Hughes at Redcar.

Lily made all and despite hanging across the track (Richard reported she wanted to run alongside other horses) she won with something to spare.

Lily was a very shrewd yearling purchase at 38,000 by the Diamond Racing team and is expected to make substantially more than that when going under the hammer at the December breeding sales.

Lady Lily was twice a winner at 2yrs and also claimed BLACK TYPE when finishing 3rd in a listed race when taking on the colts last season.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "Lady Lily has taken a little time to come to hand this season. Henry (Cecil) feels there are still more races to be won with her during her 3 year old career.

Chris continued "On Henry's advice, Lily will go to the broodmare sales in December. However there is much more fun for her owners to have before then!!

Diamond Racing Owner On Road To Recovery!!

A few weeks ago we reported that long standing Diamond Racing owner Ray Eggleton was unconcious in intensive care and medical staff were unable to diagnose the illness.

However we are please to report that Ray is now making excellent progress.

Ray is still in intensive care but is now concious and talking.

We wish Ray a full and speedy recovery and look foward to seeing him in the winners enclosure shortly.

23rd June 2007

Lady Lily recaptures form

3 year old filly Lady Lily produced a cracking performance to finish 4th beaten just 2 lengths in the feature race at Newmarket on Saturday.

Lady Lily was a smart 2 year old in 2006 winning twice and being placed 3rd in a listed race. However the 2007 season has not been productive as yet with Lily taking sometime to come to hand.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "That was a very decent run to finish that close on soft ground. Soft ground is not her favoured surface with her best form being on fast ground. It had been a close call as to whether to run her or not.

"Henry (Cecil) felt it was worth a go and in fairness she ran a cracker.Henry feels that with fast ground there are races to be won with her this season".

Chris continued "Last year she didn't really come to herself until mid-season and this run hopefully is a clear sign she is coming back to the form that she showed as a 2 year old".

17th June 2007

Prize Fighter back to form with a bang!

5 year old "Prize Fighter" showed he was far from finished with an all the way 4 length success at Leicester on Saturday night.

Trainer Henry Cecil revitalised Prize Fighter with a pair of blinkers and front running tactics. Under Ted Durcan, Prize Fighter toyed with his field before streaking clear.

Prize Fighter had showed signs of being out of love with racing and his form had dipped rapidly. This enigmatic horse has always shown listed form on the gallops but had lost his sparkle on the course.

It is back. The future looks exciting!

15th June 2007

Sir George 2nd on debut

Sir George made a satisfactory debut when finishing second on 14th June in a maiden at Yarmouth. George failed to pick up on the soft ground and trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam will not run George on ground this slow again. Pete had thought that class would tell and the ground would not matter but it was not to be!

Peter is still conidering sending Sir George as a maiden into the Group 2 July stakes which is exactly what he did with Captain Hurricane. The Captain finished 2nd in the same Yarmouth maiden race in 2004 before winning the Group 2 race. Can lightning strike twice?

23rd March 2007

Much To Look Back On And Look Forward To

With a record season in 2006 which saw Diamond Racing achieve 25 winners, and with the official flat season just over a week away,Racing Manager Christian Morgan looks back on last year and ahead to the forthcoming season.

“Last season was very important for Diamond Racing not only in terms of the number of winners we achieved, but also the new relationship that we formed with Henry Cecil. Henry now trains 6 of our string and both ourselves and Henry are delighted with the way things are progressing”.

“Diamond Racing was created to provide the smaller owner with an opportunity to experience the thrill and success of TRUE racehorse ownership. This has been achieved over the past 13 years but last season was the most successful ever”.

“When Henry joined the Diamond Racing team, this helped fulfil the long term plan of Diamond Racing in not only increasing the numbers of winners but also increasing the quality of horses and races contested. Last seasons results put us well on the road to achieving the ultimate goal of being 1) A top ten owner in the country 2) Having horses regularly competing and being competitive at listed and group level. 3) Having real contenders for the classics.

“When we purchased last seasons 2 year olds the plan was to increase the quality of horses that we syndicated and to compete at a higher level. When you consider that of the four 2 year olds we purchased all won. They won 7 races in total between them with Lady Lily winning twice and finishing her campaign with black type, part one of our plan was complete.

By 2010 we really expect all of our plans, goals and aspirations to come to fruition.

“We feel that we have a great group of 3 year olds and the early signs are that they have all improved over the winter. We would be hopeful that most of them can follow Lady Lily in achieving some black type but with one or two of them possibility even Pattern type”.

“We also have a really nice group of 2 year olds for 2007. However none of them will be early like last seasons, but we would hope that they will be making themselves well known later on in the season around July or August time.”

“I would also take this opportunity to say a thank you to George Goodwin who sadly passed away a few weeks ago, who with his son Steve created Diamond Racing back in 1994. Without George's vision and forward thinking many owners would not be enjoying the success they had over the seasons. I am sure George would feel a huge sense of pride and achievement with what he and Steve created over 13 years ago”.

2 Winners In 6 Days for Diamond Racing

Diamond Racing saw 2 winners in the space of 6 days when young at heart 12 year old Ionian Spring won his 12th race under Danny Tudhope. Six days later Cankara followed up under an outstanding ride by champion apprentice Stephen Donohoe.

Chris Morgan Racing Manager said "Its been a great week for us with 2 winners. We are very pleased that Cankara managed to get her head in front. She has had so many problems over the seasons that at one point we didn't even know if she would see a race track let alone win a race.

It is fantastic for the owners who have stood by her through it all.

Chris added "Ionian is a grand servant to racing. He will now have a little break ready for the start of the turf season. He will be aimed at claimers and sellers where we are sure he will be winning a few more races for us and our owners."

23rd October 2006

Lady Lily claims black type success

Lady Lily posted her best career effort when finishing 3rd in a listed race at Lingfield on Saturday 21st October to gain yet another black type horse for Diamond Racing.

Lady Lily an easy winner of her last 2 races took the step up in class in her stride and only lost second place on the line. This was a fine performance considering Lily was taking on colts who filled first and second place in the field. The other fillies in the race were 6 lengths back.

Steve Goodwin racing manager said "That was an excellent run. She will now be put away until next season. Henry (Cecil) as always said that her 3 year old campaign is when we shall see the best of her. Henry feels she is still immature, so 2 wins and listed placed already bolds very well for next season".

Steve Goodwin added "Lady Lily has provided her owners with so much fun and enjoyment this season and to finish the year with 3rd in a listed race was just fantastic. However we are sure she will be finishing a few places closer in those types of races next year.

This is what Diamond Racing is all about, providing our owners with decent horses, fun and enjoyment but without the huge expense of owning a racehorse outright".

19th October 2006

Lady Lily heads for listed event

Lady Lily an easy winner of her last 2 races heads for Lingfield on Saturday to contest a listed event.

Chris Morgan Assistant Racing Manager said "Henry has always thought a lot of Lady Lily, she is in need of fast ground and she has only got her ground twice this season. The plan was to go for a fillies listed race at Newmarket on 27th October but the chance of getting fast ground looks limited so Henry has decided to go on the a/w where the surface is quick. It is not ideal because she shall be taking on the colts but be have to take our chance".

Lady Lily will be bidding to be Diamond Racings 100th winner!!!!

27th September 2006

Ben Chorley wins maiden in canter

Ben Chorley who showed promise some 6 weeks earlier in a decent Newmarket maiden, got off the mark at just the second time of asking at Newcastle on Wednesday.

Travelling just behind the leaders Ben cruised through the race and with 2f to travel jockey Danny Tudhope was looking around for dangers.

Ben was asked to quicken and he soon went 3 lengths clear, being eased down before the line, he recorded an easy 2 length victory.

Steve Goodwin Racing Manager said "That was our 24th winner for 2006 and our 99th in total. I have promised all our owners a party on me when we reach 100 and that doesn't look that far away. Ben is a nice horse and does need cut in the ground. Pete feels that he will be a very nice 3 year old".

18th September 2006

Lady Lily shines at Leicester

Lady Lily recorded her second win on the bounce under a confident Ted Durcan ride. On her favoured fast ground there was never a moments worry as Lily trounced a very competitive field.

Only two more until the party promised to all owners by racing manager Steve Goodwin!.

13th September 2006

A Practically Perfect Performance

Practicallyperfect on just her second career start and her first since moving to Henry Cecil won her maiden at Beverley on Wednesday.

Ridden by young Daniel Tudhope, PracticallyPerfect was having her first start for 132 days since moving to Warren Place.

Perfect was ridden just behind the leaders before the outstanding Daniel Tudhope sent her about her business with 2f to run.

La Spezia the odds-on shot laid down a big challenge in the final furlong but Perfect just kept finding more to win by 1l with the third horse a further 8 lengths behind.

Chris Morgan Assistant Racing Manager said "Being off the track for over 130 days she was in need of that. Henry has done a great job with her and feels she will come on a lot for the run, La Spezia and Wishing On A Star are nice fillies and she has beaten them well. We feel she will be even better at 3 over a longer trip".

5th September 2006

Lady Lily turns maiden into procession

Lady Lily won her maiden at Catterick on 5th September on unsuitable ground with an hands and heels ride from Daniel Tudhope.

Tracking the leaders from just off the pace the outstanding Daniel Tudhope asked the question with just over a furlong to travel and the race was quickly over.

Steve Goodwin Racing Manager said "Henry has always thought a lot of this filly but she is in need of fast ground if we are to see the very best of her".

That was Diamond Racing's 21st winner of 2006 and their 96th in total.

3rd September 2006

Sualda wins hurdles debut in procession

When we claimed Sualda in August 2006, we promised all owners that Sualda would win the first hurdles race in Diamond racing colours. As usual our promise was kept as Sualda won in a hack canter easing down from the last flight.

Owners who backed Sualda from 11/4 into 2/1 never had a moments worry and the best is yet to come!

Expect Sualda out in the next 2/3 weeks to attempt back to back victories.

Diamond Racing are now only 5 wins away from 100 wins and racing manager Steve Goodwin promised all owners a party at his expense. Should well be worth the wait!

10th August 2006

Diamond Hurricane blows them away

Hurricane produced a scintilating performance to win on his handicap debut at Chepstow on 10th August 2006.

Running from a mark of 74 and fancied to go well by Diamond Racing, Hurricane was backed from an early morning price of 9/1 into 9/2 starting price.

Ridden from just off the pace by Steve Drowne, Hurricane produced an excellent burst of speed inside the final furlong to notch his second win from just four starts.

This brought about Diamond Racing's 18th winner of 2006 and the 7th trained by David Evans.

Further Outlook Completes 4 Timer!!

Further Outlook completed his 4 timer at Southwell on Monday 31st July.

The young at heart 12 year old lead from start to finish under Steve Donohoe to record his 14th Career victory.

Further Outlook was later claimed by Gay Kelleway and we hope Outlook provides Gay with the same success and enjoyment he provided our owners with.

Racing Manager Steve Goodwin said "It was sad to lose Further Outlook because he's given us such joy and success. We know and accept that horses that run in claimers are there to be claimed.

We wish Gay great success with him.Above all we know he's gone to a good home".

30th June 2006

3 Timer For Further Outlook

12 year old Further Outlook completed the first 3 timer of his career which brings his career wins to 13.

Claimed by Diamond Racing last season. Outlook was given the winter off. He needed his first two runs of 2006 but has subsequently won three races on the bounce. Diamond Racing will attempt to retain this sequence throughout 2006, would anyone bet against them doing it.

Chris Morgan (Assistant Racing Manager) said "He is the kind of horse that every owner would like to have, always gives it 100% and just gets on with the job. He has a special place in our hearts"

Racing Manager Steve Goodwin added "The most amazing thing about the race was the betting market! We had two horses in the same race Outlook and Diamond Josh. As with all our horses both ran to their true merits. However I had personally told everyone concerned that I thought Further was a certainty and I did not believe Diamond Josh could beat our grey. Josh was backed from 6/1 into 5/2 favourite whilst Outlook drifted from 9/4 out to 5/1! Absolutely amazing. It just shows you cannot always trust what the betting market tells you!!!!!!!!"

This brought about Diamond's 16th winner in 2006 and 91st in total. Danny Tudhope has now ridden 10 winners for Diamond this year and Diamond Racing are committed to doing their best to help him become champion apprentice for 2006.

Well done Danny!

Diamond Dan powers home for 80th victory!

Diamond Dan under a superb Danny Tudhope ride brings home Diamond Racings fifth victory of 2006 and the 80th in total.

From a poor draw in 12 Dan missed the break and this meant Dan was placed last in at the first bend. This proved to be the answer to Dan as Danny Tudhope commented that waiting tactics "made Dan feel like a different horse". He powered through the whole field running out a ready one length winner. Now that the key has been found to the horse, we hope that Dan will add to this victory for his owners during 2006.

Mezereon notches 79th success for Diamond Racing

Mezereon notched the 79th success for Diamond Racing and 4th already in 2006 with a comfortable pillar to post success at Bangor. The horse provided young William Kennedy with his first victory on his first ride for Diamond Racing and provided trainer Declan Carroll with his second success for Diamond Racing this year

Tremendous credit must also be given to our pre-training yard team of Sara Walker and Paula Hush who nursed Mezereon back from a serious leg injury.

We hope that Mezereon will add to this success both over hurdles and over fences in 2006.

Kylkenny lands 78th success for Diamond Racing

Kylkenny landed Diamond Racings 3rd winner in 2006 and 78th overall when comfortably landing a £10,000 handicap under a superb Danny Tudhope ride. Claimed from Hughie Morrison's yard after Kylkenny's win in a claimer, this win vindicated Steve Goodwin's decision to purchase this ultra tough veteran. Morrison had previously stated there were no opportunities and that Kylkenny would struggle in handicaps against young and improving horses. With Declan Carroll improving the horse to winning off the highest rating it had ever achieved, full credit must go to the whole team.

Following the race Diamond Racing sold the horse back to Hughie Morrison and we hope that the horse will either be retired or run in handicaps only.

Prize Fighter wins but doesnt in controversy

Competing against two leading fancies for the Triumph Hurdle "Daraybad" and "My Immortal", Prize Figher oozed class as coming over the second last he cruised 3 lengths clear. However jockey Noel Fehily failed to notice a flagman indicating the last hurdle was to be omitted. Jumping the last flight he was disqualified for taking the wrong course.

Uproar followed as it was clear that a standing vehicle obscured the jockeys view.

Despite the fact the race was taken from him Prize Fighter WAS the winner and Aintree and Punchestown could now be on the agenda.

Trainer Jonjo O'Neill was delighted and he feels that Prize Fighter will not only continue his rise up the hurdling ranks but will make a sensational novice chaser in future years!
