DAVID EVANS (Pandy)
David Evans is a group-race winning trainer who is recognised for his uncanny ability to achieve significant improvement with horses claimed from other trainers, or finding winning opportunities for his own inexpensive purchases. Birmingham-born David has notched up close to 1,000 winners – 800 on the Flat and some 200 under National Hunt rules since commencing training in 1988. At 15 he worked as an apprentice jockey with limited success, and then became an assistant to Tom Bill at Ashby and then Annabel King at Stratford. He began training with only five horses at Long Mountain, near Welshpool, Powys, with Peaconpala ridden by Trevor Wall at Hereford giving him his first winner in April 1989. His shrewdness and hard work has seen his string grow and he now trains more than 60 horses in the shadow of the Black Mountains at a former stud at Ty-Derlwyn Farm, near Abergavenny. Since the introduction of all-weather racing, David has had notable successes and is one of the top trainers at Wolverhampton. His record shows that he has the ability to consistently find improvement from both claimed horses and early-season two-year-olds. His regular supply of long-priced wins and places offers his owners plenty of sporting opportunities. He has already demonstrated this with the Danehill gelding, The Kiddykid, who has won two group races and a listed race. He gave the stable its biggest success in the hands of Jamie Spencer when landing the group two Duke of York Hearthstead Homes Stakes at York, and also picked up the group three Greenland Stakes at The Curragh. Other group successes have been provided by the likes of Misty Miss winning the group three Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood, and over the sticks Master Beveled landing the listed Agfa Hurdle at Sandown. The stable has raced in Italy and Sweden and landed a listed race at Longchamp with the Diamond Racing owned, DIAMOND MAX.
